Malfunctioning... can't be a Synology!
ОтветитьThis is very helpful. Can you please do a detailed steps for Question #3? I want to migrate from DS712+ w/ DX213 to a DS1515+. Thank you.
ОтветитьNO NO NO, people WONT transfer disks ....they will buy NEW ones.... why start fresh with these tiny drives...another review that misses that mark! ....NO ONE WILL MOVE OLD DRIVES TO NEW TECHNOLOGY!>....LEAVE THEM BE!!!
Ответитьi plan migrate my ds1813 to ds1817, do you have to any setup before doing this?
Ответить"Be sure to have a backup of all your files".... but the Synology IS my backup!
Ответитьnot really usefull video. Just anout how to copy data. thats the easiest part. but what about how to migrate applicazion together with the settings? jow to migrate users? how to migrate cloud with all settings (this is not currently possible without virtuslisation)? how to migrate in the environment where you neef shortest time of interruption? how to migrate all backup settings? ...
ОтветитьMy NAS unit currently have the drives configured as independent JBOD volumes with btrfs format. Will they be visible on the NAS if I connect the drives to a new NAS via USB?
ОтветитьGetting the data over isn't a big deal, the problem is the Packages that require configuration. HyperBackup, Calendar, etc.
ОтветитьExactly answering my questions that i looked for! GREAT video! Because of this ease of use i only buy synology for my customers :)
ОтветитьHow to migrate within the same Synology DS415+ from 2 4gb drives to two 10gb drives?
ОтветитьThanks just did a smooth migration from a synology DS218j 2 Bay to a DS918+ currently expanding volume one. Question did a backup all my settings from old to the new with the restore. But I’ve lost DS Video quick connect? Would I need to restart the DSM
ОтветитьI didn't know Jesse Eisenberg is doing tech support
ОтветитьI have a hardware failure (mother board) on my Synology nas, on that nas I had installed some surveillance licenses, do those licenses get migrated as well when I install the disks on the new synology nas?
ОтветитьGreat to know that it's so simple.
ОтветитьHow do I migrate from Synology 2 bay NAS in JBOD to Synology 4 bay NAS in SHR?
ОтветитьHow do I migrate from Synology 2 bay NAS in JBOD to Synology 4 bay NAS in SHR?
ОтветитьWhat kind of information or configuration may be lost when migrating ? Its not clear
ОтветитьExcellent video. Well done
ОтветитьI will migrate from my DS918+ to a DS1918+. I will put my current 4x8TB in new NAS and will add 2x10TB for now and leave 2 disk slots unpopulated. My biggest concern and unanswered question is, will my licenses for Surveillance Station additional cameras and MailPlus additional users be transferred??? I cannot seem to find the answer anywhere.
ОтветитьTo what nNAS can i migrate my DS412+ ?? Knowing that my DS412+ is not accessible anymore ...can't start it up. Can i just swap disks into the new destination NAS from synology, a simple HDD migration ?
ОтветитьHow to migrate data for the same Synology NAS when wanting to increase storage space? Like going from a 2TB to a new 4TB HDD in either of the two slots, transferring the 2TB of data of the old full drive into the new 4TB one.
ОтветитьSorry but the order of the disks is important! See also the Synology migration guidelines...
ОтветитьHow the hell am I not able to easily migrate my HDDs from a DS218play to a DS418play? I don't care about the different CPUs, it's just CR*P to not be able to do so!
ОтветитьThis video litteraly spends 12 seconds on how to make the migration work from single to multiple bay...very much useless
ОтветитьToday I became one of the apparently many users who disocvered their DiskStation as 'migratable' The OS was just gone. This hasn't happened on any of my computers or phones in over 40 years in computing, not one. Can you explain this?
Does reinstalling the OS damage data? You don't state. You skip over so much and speed through things that are fundimental while taking a long time on plugging hard drives in. Also, shouldn't you shut the NAS down, not hold the power button?
I'm using an old DS-411J and planning to migrate to a new faster model soon. What will be the best way? Swap the 4 disks out or copy all files manually?
Ответитьquestion.
I have the synology of one bay.
If a disk fills up but I don't want to migrate it, but I want to replace it with a new one, what about the full disk?, how is the old disk configured, and how can I access the information if it is not connected to a synology?
Here is my scenario I have a ds1815+ that has died. The data is intact. It was the shutdown normally then the nas will not boot again bug common to this model nas.
Now I want to get a new ds1821+ with 8 new 6TB wd red pros. How can I migrate the data from the 7 4TB drives that were in a raid share in the now-dead nas ds1815+.
Can I use something like a usb drive docking station to copy each of the 7 ds1815+ disks to the new 1821+ share somehow? Can you make a video showing how it would be done?
Can you migrate to larger drives as well?
ОтветитьI am using raid 5. When I transfer will it keep my raid settings?
Ответить@synology, can you please update this videos to DSM 7 related impact???
ОтветитьSorry, but not enough info to feel confident about migrating the old single to new double bay in raid 1. You show some screens, but it isn't clear which NAS you are making the task on. Why just a brief description without a detail walkthrough, especially after you say this is a complex task compared to other migration? I was so hopeful when you said that. I will keep researching.
Ответитьhow is this done if i cant communicate with my original DS413j
ОтветитьThis was absolutely perfect guidance. Thank you!
ОтветитьI did exactly what it is in the video, switched from a 219+ to a 923+ and after the Migration the Volume/Pool is broken and 8TB of Business Data is gone. I reached out to Synology and opened a ticket and keep waiting for a response for days now. What I learned: NEVER USE Synology's SHR System > USE the real RAID. Do not depend on only one company which is starting to get you into their ECO-System. Synology is not a open BACKUP-Solution.
ОтветитьThank you. How do I migrate drives and expansion? Just move drives and connect the expansion and turn on?
Ответить7 Years old but, still relevant!
ОтветитьCan possibly data Lost?
Ответить👍
ОтветитьIs there any way to only upgrade my disks (so not using another nas to migrate). I want to upgrade my 27.5 To config to a 60+ To config (5 disks with btrfs). But I'm actually really happy with my actual seanology nas and can't really afford to by another nas just to do a migration.
ОтветитьDoes this work with raid shr. btw i've got a dead 1515+
Ответитьunfortunately my current Synology NSDS1815+ is completely dead (8 8Tb Disks)... so replacing it with a new NS1821+ which is arriving Monday or maybe Tuesday
Ответитьand giving that your sole & essential system porpos is to back up which you recommended us to do before doing the drives migrations ....could you please explain how to do this backup?
Ответитьhow do you migrate ds211j to ds224+? can old drive be read over esata?
ОтветитьSynology is big regret becarefull there is no good services and support !!!I had problem about my synology nas
And Steve Baker
Technical Support Engineer write me about my problem that
We are sorry to hear that your DS218 has to be reset. This is likely caused by an issue in the DSM operating-system.
We understand that you are worried about losing your data. Please rest assured, your data should not be affected by the reset as the OS and data are stored in separate partitions on the drives. When re-installing the OS, the system should normally not touch the data-partitions of your drives.
I beleived and i did what he said now all my data erased omg i shocked after sir Steve Baker dissepeared i am alone there is nothing in my hands
All twelve years datas erased bc of supporter
Synology is regret bad nas choose qnap there isnt good support for problemss !!!
There is no good service and support becarefullll!!!
Going from a potential 7 bay NAS setup, to a 4 bay setup 🙃
ОтветитьI went from a DS413 to a DS423+
I made backups for all my data. It was a lot since I had more than 11TB on the drives.
So I just moved the Disks to the new chassi and turned it on. It downloaded the latest DSM (firmware-OS) and recognized all my disks as migrates from a DS413. I had a selection of choices and the one I picked was just to continue as good as is could with all the data and settings for users and system. It took me a while to configure up everything with router and updating all the application packages, but it is running good and much smoother than I would expect. I can't see any users that has been lost or if anything else has failed to transfered to the new DSM, but I have seen new and different settings in the new DSM.
Right now the disks is running data scrubbing for all the data and that will take a few days to complete. I didn't need my backups in the end, but I'm still glad that I made those backups because I felt safe. And I also selected that the system should keep my data, maybe it would be better in a technical perspective to start over in a clean slate but I think that I saved a lot of time with this.
I will check out the new versions of the application packages and see what has changed.
If anything I hope someone will find this interesting, this video i quite old now.
