Assumption Of Mary Dances with Itxas Alde in Bakio - Basque Country [Travel with Manfred]

The "El Dia de la Virgen" (Assumption of Mary) is one of the biggest celebrations in Bakio. Throughout all the year more than 200 people - from kids to adults - prepare for this day as part of the folklore dance group Itxas Alde. Weekly dance classes are held throughout the year. The celebration this year was held on August 15, 2009. At mid-day the celebration with lots of traditional Basque dances was held on the church square. The evening gala celebration was held in the sports center and lasted some 2 hours. Many dances in the evening gala were from Navara, especially some carnival dances.
