I think VRM heatsink mods like this work better with an air cooler that pushes air over those heatsinks

Good idea to use the off-market VRM heatsinks. But I will say, if you want to low the VRM and CPU temps, then just go to the BIOS, and do a negative offset to the processor voltage. I've done it on my 5800X. Now, my processor temp stays low and gives good performance.
My build is,
Ryzen 7 5800X
ASUS Prime B550 Plus (This board has dedicated VRM heatsinks)
2x 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws RAM
NVIDIA RTX 3060 12GB

Which cpu cooler did you use for the 5800X ? Not sure what is the maximum size of cpu cooler can this MB support. Thanks a lot

Very interesting! I have this board for my 5600g, but Im planning on upgraden to a 5800x3d without changing the motherboard. I only do gaming, so there wont be much usage for more than 2 cores. I wonder if this will be ok. I have very good airflow Inside my case with 2 strong fans at the front, 1 at the back and one big noctua 170mm fan in the case door at 600rpm, basically blowing fresh air from outside on top of the board.

Hey I just installed a 5950x to replace my 2600 on a B450 Tomahawk but as soon as I start Cinebench it crashes if I keep CPB on. Only with CPB off it doesn't crash. I've tried adding +2 +4 +6 and +8 in curve optimizer but it didn't help. Do you have an idea what I could try?

Very cool! That thing in line of those 6 condensatori is also pretty hot, if you are sticking heatsinks around that would be a good candidate too. Thanks for your videos!

I would love to see a performance and thermals comparison between the 3700x at its stock 88w PPT vs a 5800x at the same PPT as the 3700x.

The Crosshair might have a better score since its power limit defaults may be higher, e.g. the TDC and EDC limit. On the B450 you're running at the 130A limit according to HWInfo, boards that are designed for 105W TDP processors have a default of 140A EDC instead. Of course they also need the VRM design to provide all this power without overheating, which this B450 clearly doesn't have (is it 3 real phases that are then doubled?).

thanks for the video. those pads render your heatsinks useless you can add the smallest amount of non-conductive thermal paste on VRMs and secure heatsinks on top with pressure and something!! I thought maybe a hot glue can do it but at 100 degrees i think that will melt so IDK. leave that part to you:) I love to see another video in this regard anyway.

Added similar heatsinks to my B350 tomahawk when I used it with my 1700. knocked 10C off the VRM temps like for like in my case.

Great video with easy to follow instructions.
I recently did a build for my little brother with ryzen 5 1600 af, MSI B450-A Pro Max, and 16 GB Hyper X Fury RBG 3000Mhz (HX430C15FB3AK2/16). The CPU Auto voltage is above 1.4V (without any overclock) and whenever I try to do any kind of overclock to the CPU or even just undervolting to 1.2v, the system crashes as soon as I save the settings. The RAM works fine with the XMP profile (2933Mhz), however, when I try to overclock them, the system crashes as well. I tried using Ryzen Dram Calculator to get proper timings, but thaiphoon burner says I got Samsung C-Die (even though on the MSI QVL page it says Hynix) and there is no selection for Samsung C-Die. Any ideas as to why I keep getting these crashes? It might be due to the PSU? It's 450W with the following voltages
Rail +12V 2
+3.3V 15 A
+5V 13 A
+12V 1 14 A
+12V 2 13 A
-12V 0.3 A
+5Vsb 2.1 A

Can you test a top blower cooler?
for example AM3+ Asrock 970 Extreme4 had in the past problems mit fx-81xx/83xx, because the VRM wasn`t the best.
the solution was to use a top blower cooler for the cpu to cool also the VRMs.

what people should learn from this video is ............. use a downdraft cpu cooler to get some airflow over the vrm section even more so when you have a cheap crap board with no heatsinks (amazingly amd ship the correct design of cooler with the lower end cpus that should be matched to a very low end 450 board like this )

i used to see issues like this with the old amd fx8 cores as well , people would buy cheaper boards with no heatsinks plug in the fx8xxx cpu then use tower coolers to keep the cpu cooler ,,,,but introduce the problem that the vrm now cooks itself

and this is why i make sure my cheap MB had a VRM headsink, their are way bigger than those and probably the thermal interface has better propriety. Plus i make sure there is airflow on the heatsink

Should also do test with no heat sink and only fan. And B450 boards are really the worst of the boards you can buy. (still depends what board ofc) Neat test i enjoyed watching, was a bit hard to see the temp on the heat camera. Thumb up <3 ty
