Hi Sarah, I have been working my way through your videos which are so interesting and informative, can I ask do you ever wash their beds as well as they sometimes poop in them too?

I will say this. Even though it may portray me as the worst person ever. My guinea pig I got unexpectedly as a surprise. I didn’t know how to take care of one. So I went along with it. For the next two years I struggled to take care of peanut and clean his cage due to school. So this cage always ended up getting a bunch of bugs.. so i realized I wasn’t suited for taking care of peanut and gave him to my brother. Which he unfortunately did the same thing and gave him back to me.

Peanut lived for terrible conditions for a while. But in March I decided I was gonna get him a bigger and opened cage. $39 but worth it. 3 months later I built it and instead of using bedding I used the fleeces and they were a game changer! Not a lot of flys but WAYY less than the amount of flys that were there before.

I’m still adjusting to this and aswell trying to build a bond with my guinea pig and although it’s tough. I’ve got to say.. so far he’s letting me touch him in the cage!🎉

Anyways I made a routine which was sweep his cage daily and let him roam until I was done. This way his cage wouldn’t have much of a mess and attract lots of flys. (Which worked) I’m not sure if it’s good to do but I saw on another video that it’s good to do? But yeah.

When I put him in the new clean cage he was super happy! And then I went online and bought like 200$ worth of stuff for him. (Arrives tomorrow<3)

With the new cage he barely had anything in his cage. Just the fleece and his food bowls. But I read online that it’s bad for them not to have a hiding space? So I made a temporary hunt for him which I can say he somewhat likes?

But your videos have taught me to change and do better with taking care of my guinea pig thank you! Also I only have one and I’m afraid he might be alone but I don’t have space for a second..

awww...love them...I have 5 of them, mom passed away after birth she had 2 babies. I've named them according to coffee(mom's name) father is macchiato. baby is Latte, affogato. Latte had 2 baby as well named them flat white and cappuccino. Also they only respond to my voice. My wife, father and mother talks to them but they don't squeak. only my voice trigger them. My wife always says "you're the father!!" LOL

Do you wash it inside the pillow cases? Is that to contain fur and hay?

Funnily enough, my 3 gps prefer oaten hay to timothy hay. Does anyone else find this?

I like to use Timothy hay but I use the SmallPETSelect hay. But only three of my four guinea pigs like the SmallPetSelect hay. I have one who doesn’t really prefer the stuff but they all Love the Timothy hay but mostly the little fuzzy bits of the hays. But every one of my pigs love pea and carrot flakes.

Why are they always pooping? I've never seen an animal that is constantly dropping pelets.

Timothy hay isn't a one size fits all solution and it certainly isn't all great. One of my guinea pigs was allergic to that type of hay and I had no idea - he became really sick with asthma when I tried using that hay and I had to put him down because he was suffocating before my eyes even though the vet tried everything. I'm never going to use timothy hay again.

Tip:
Even though this is speaking from personal experience and this goes for most pets, don’t get guinea pigs if you have children below the age of 11 and you’re planning to leave around half of the care to the children. Children do NOT know how to take care of guinea pigs unless they are very prepared/are the type of children who are independent from an early age.

Lol watching them squeak set off my 4 squeaking 😂 yes this is definitely my life. My messy squeaky hay filled poop covered life. And i wouldnt have it any other way.
