WHY THE NIV IS CRITICIZED SO MUCH

NIV reads very beautifully. It had its day, and the publisher made millions.

I grew up using the 1984 NIV, and agree it’s very readable. Once I got into deeper study, I found the NIV avoided some theological terms, so that got me looking at other translations, so I began using the NASB and now use the NKJV. Also, I understand the NIV is somewhat inconsistent, with some books being much better translated than others. However, I’m not expert enough to be sure. I still use it sometimes, and like it, but don’t use it for studying. I have been put off the NIV more recently by the marketing hype around it, and was shocked by the aggressive way the publisher tried to get rid of older editions after bringing out the 2011 edition. Commercialisation of the Bible is something I always find quite ugly and offensive.

Is the NIV 11 is a perversion of scripture it allows for women preachers get cast out on John chapter 8 and woman caught in adultery which is attested to outside of scripture my place in it in italics it creates a point of Doubt for the entirety of scripture. The passage of John chapter 8 is so well historically attested but you only have 21 ancient manuscripts all of the 700 save 21 manuscripts of John have this. The gender perversity then this one Stoops to is staggering . Any set of Scholars that will resort to this type of gender perversion. Clearly believe that God is a doting old fool you simply did not know when he by the Holy Spirit said man he shouldn't have done that because it was going to offend the feminazi perverts of our modern society . This is the case where you are completely wrong in your estimation of the value of the NIV it needs to be removed immediately from print and zondervan needs to apologize to the church for printing at all.

The debate between Formal Equivalence (A supposed word-for-word translation) and Dynamic Equivalence (The authors original intent) can generate opinionated debates. Listening to Bible Translators Dynamic Translation seems to be the best approach to me. For instance with Formal Equivalence how do you translate idom's, for example the Greek idiom "To have it in the belly", would an English speaker know what this means?..... It means to be pregnant, a KJV translation (Early Modern English) idiom would be "to be with child". I would rather read the Authors original intent instead of a word for translation.

The NIV is a strange bible it said the opposite what the KJV because if you go to Ezekiel chapter 13 20 in the NIV it's say that people fly away and on the KJV in the same book same chapter verses God is speaking and saying that he is against the NIV the people flying away so there are 7 trumpet 7 vials and 7 seals so the NIV is saying that Jesus Christ will make people fly 7 times that He will be coming and going make people fly so the NIV is written by someone who kills Jesus Christ

The NIV84 was the GOAT, easily one of the top three English translations of all time. Zondervan had a license to print money as long as they kept the NIV84. They released the TNIV and it landed with a thump; so some genius decided to re-release it as the NIV.

Immediately, thousands of conservative churches around the country switched to the ESV. The ESV would likely have still been popular in direct competition with the 84, but against the NIV2011, the choice is crystal clear.

Whoever made the decision to rebrand the TNIV as the NIV2011, and then go scorched earth on the NIV84 probably cost Zondervan hundreds of millions of dollars--which tells me it was likely ideological rather than a business decision. They killed the golden goose (the bible being used by 75% or more of all Evangelicals), and now the NIV trails half a dozen other translations for eyeballs.

9 years ago I road my bike 4 miles to a church I thought would give me a Bible, I was given the NIV, I read it and 2 years later I read the KJV, I know for a fact God was with me just the same each time.

The NIV people who put that version out has become liberal in their views. In 2011 when they came out with their new edition they had all the Christian book stores send in all the 1984 editions that they had not sold yet. I guess they had them all destroyed. In 1978 I bought my first NIV and I loved the bible. The changes they made in 1984 version was very minor, but the 2011 update is basically watered down. If the original bible has the male form..... you cannot put in the female form and consider it as being true to the Word of God. When the church becomes woke..... it's sadly, game over! I think the "Person" who runs this channel is a product of his generation. That goes without saying....

I thought that most of the criticism directed at the NIV is also applicable to the RSV and pretty well all the versions other than the KJV.

I think using the word, they, in the context that we use it today to refer to a single person in a sentence, is fine to refer to a single person in the Bible, if applicable. I have never thought of that as being a gender neutral way of speaking myself. It just seems a natural way to talk, and I am a 52 year old woman. My very first, treasured, adult Bible that I bought myself was the NIV study Bible back in 1991 or 1992. I LOVED that Bible and there are highlights and notes all over it! I still have it. Most of my Bibles are the NIV translation. In fact, it has only been recently that I even knew there was criticism with the NIV translation. lol I think if a person is going to an in depth study so hard that it does matter about being as close to a word for word translation, then there are a few other translations that are better for that kind of study. However, for general reading, and study, and worship, I don't see an issue with the NIV Bible translation. I have not exhausted all the research on this issue of the NIV being criticized, but what I have learned, I think are people being nit picky. It is a great scholarly Bible translation for most things. If it isn't something that a certain person chooses to use, that is fine also. I don't see the need to criticize this translation so much. This is my opinion.

Nice video... My church uses the KJV as the main bible, but since English is not our language, I must admit that some passages in the KJV is a little hard for me to comprehend. And everytime the passage from the KJV becomes confusing to me, I always grab the NIV and it explains it very well. The only issue for me regarding the NIV, are the missing verses. But all in all, it's a beautiful translation.

The NIV narrative Makes readers believe that Jesus is God. Kjv explains clearly that God manifested in Christ and Christ was not God but God was in christ. Where as the niv changes wording to Jesus is God. This is why these that read the niv version believe Jesus is God.

Translation vs. Translation - Just Read THE WHOLE BIBLE PERIOD

One of the problems with people speaking bad about the KJV and versions of the Bible in general is this: Just read The Holy Bible. Read all of it. Read any translation. I use it, but since the 2011 translation of Mark 1:41, I am less than pleased with that rendering.
There is only 1 other version I am aware of that translates that passage that way.😢
I think we are coming to the place where newer updates will fall in line with cultural norms. Society is to be changed by the Bible, not the Bible changed by Society!

I love the NIV, it's not too literal or too dynamic for me. When I read the NIV I can visualise what's happening in the Bible because I can understand what it says. The gender inclusive language doesn't bother me, in fact I agree with it because it's only used when the Bible is referring to men and women, that's how English is spoken today so it makes the Bible clearer.

Why do you keep repeating the King James version as if you're downgrading it as your downplaying it

Thank you Tim for your explanation of the NIV. I had been a little bit skeptical of the NIV in the past because of other people's comments on it but I'm starting to feel more comfortable with it now. I was gifted an NIV in 2005, it was the Rainbow NIV and I have not really taken the time to really dig into it. But now after watching your video I feel that I need to give it a chance. Success, envy, and jealousy would be my number 1 reason for why it is criticized.

I wish there was an easy way to distinguish the different versions of the NIV. I have a feeling the publisher of the 2011 NIV tried to keep that purposely ambiguous to keep the sales up.

I have a beautiful king james , new king james , ESV but I always come back to my NIV. This is the translation that impacted me the most on my walk with Christ.

I have a dozen or so study Bibles. Three are based on the NIV and they are produced by great scholars. My favorite is the Zondervan NIV Study Bible edited by D A Carson. This is a tremendous resource for any serious Bible student. Does anyone else like this Bible?

NiV is criticized so much because it is the most popular bible translation.

I grew up with the NIV 84 but as an adult I have come to appreciate the NIV 2011. I use it in conjunction with the ESV, CSB, and NASB.

They should’ve left the NIV84 alone. It’s still my go to today.

Recently put the NIV in my Bible reading rotation. I enjoy it. My rule of thumb on translations other than the KJV is if God is revealing biblical truth to the reader then it's good.😊

I actually was saved and transformed through studying a paperback NIV Bible that someone sent me in the mail.

I just saw your video and found your reasons accurate. I just switched from my NIV to the CSB. I was wanting something more literal but not as much as the ESV and the CSB hit that mark for me. I always felt a little uncomfortable with the 2011 NIV version revisions and the CSB hit that mark too. I'd probably have stayed with the NIV if the 1984 version was still around and available on my bible app.
