ОтветитьI learned British English when I began speaking English. Born in Ceylon before the name change and then moved to England when I was two. Relocated to the United States when I was 10 1/2 and was teased about my English accent and retrained in American English. My pronunciation changes at home when I talk to my parents though - more British sounding but with a sing-song Ceylonese intonation. And they use words no longer used in modern Britain -- dickey for boot (of a car); spectacles or specs instead of "glasses". Also, cinema instead of "the movies" and biscuit instead of "cookie". I've noticed a fair number of American words and phrases have crept into British English - " out in the sticks", for example, is an American expression. So is "cold turkey".
ОтветитьThank you for the video
Ответить10 packs a day that would be dangerous 😂
ОтветитьWell, this comment is one year later, but is always perfect. You are nothing to chage, you are perfect like you are. Thank you a lot.
ОтветитьYou look genius with your glasses
ОтветитьI don't understand the meaning of "by the skin of your teeth"
can you explain me this in comment section
please?
Awesome Sir.....................
ОтветитьHi Elliott, a have a question from tbis video. Is "neck of the woods" an informal expression? Thank you so much for your content, it's extremely helpful for us students. Greetings from Spain.
ОтветитьThank you Elliot for improving my English!
ОтветитьAmazing and very helpful video!! But I will stand by my cats and dogs when it comes to stormy weather, sorry about that!! ;)
ОтветитьYou Brits do love your schwa, don't you? 😂
Ответитьabsolutely wonderful
ОтветитьThanks for calling my attention to the concept of using the outdated expressions, idioms that means we should always keep on updating our knowledge otherwise learners will definitely feel themselves isolated.
ОтветитьEven though it is really tough to pronounce the English words in British accent , I will keep on trying all my best possible means to speak English in British accent .
ОтветитьAmazing job
ОтветитьFlorence, in Tuscany, is my neck of the wood 👍
ОтветитьЯ только начала изучать английский 🇬🇧❤, и Вас практически не понимаю. Но слушаю с удовольствием ) Пытаюсь услышать знакомые слова. Мне в изучении английского помогает дочь - студентка лингвистики. I very like English 😃
ОтветитьI am requesting to your parents to tell you make more videos if you can
ОтветитьGlasses looks perfect! Thank u for sharing your knowledge.
ОтветитьHi Ell. I’m from FİNLAND.
I’ve been following your videos about 14 months and I gonna follow you forever
Thank you very much…
For very nice explanation…
You are a great teacher I wish…so god bless you always.
I really admire every video on your channel, I ask permission to practice british accent with your videos plz
ОтветитьThanks a lot . You are a superb teacher on British accent. I am watching from Bangladesh. But at times, I fall in problem in listening what you are talking about. So would you give each video lessons with subtitles? If
you kindly provide each video, then millions of learners will be greatly benifited who are non native speakers throughout the world .
Thank you so much your videos so good keep going pls 🙆
ОтветитьI thought you were going to take your glasses off after saying it. I was so ready to watch
ОтветитьLearning British accent is too easy than American
Ответить@etj this was a great lesson as always! You rock 😊
ОтветитьHi sir I’m a big fan of you keep going 🎉❤
Ответить👍
ОтветитьOklahoma USA
ОтветитьNeck of the woods..... your vicinity
ОтветитьDo a runner...to flee ,to escape
ОтветитьBy the skin of teeth .....u snatched it in the long run
ОтветитьCan u use what’s your neck of the woods instead of where in England ?
ОтветитьActually, "cold turkey" refers not to quitting something but to the discomfort after quitting something.
ОтветитьNeck of the woods? I'm from Jakarta, Indonesia
ОтветитьTeeth have no skin so the expression by the neck of the teeth doesn't really make sense.😊
ОтветитьMy neck of the woods is Pakistan panjab❤
ОтветитьI absolutely adore that "Running dogs and cats":))) Well, living in Ireland , I hear this lovely idiom quite often from mature Irish Gentlemen, and have hearing these words, every time I begin looking around - where ARE all those dogs and cats running away of the heavy rain?😂Thanks for the lovely lesson, Alian😊
ОтветитьCan You make an authentic british english conversation for listening practise .
Congratulations 🎉❤❤
