Are they bringing in NEW C-suite talent? Or are they giving bonuses to the same C-suite folks that got them in the current mess they find them selves?

Love your perspective and videos, and appreciating the desire to keep things relevant and engaging, the cut-ins "80s-90s guys" and movie clips trivialize things. I'm guessing that is your hired editing....but it makes it harder to watch. Just a thought. Keep up the good work!

Great flying videos. But, with all due respect, providing financial analysis of airlines is more complicated than a copy and paste of random press releases.

History seems to indicate that in general, airlines are very poorly managed. I think that if it weren't for government subsidies they would fail.

The airlines got millions from tax payers during covid and survived. Too bad Spirit doesn’t have the same concern for their employees. Giving pay raises to execs while furloughs are happening is sickening. No morality in that decision.

Big Ern, you just signed a fat contract, YOU are part of the problem as well. it's not just executives. Now seat fees will be coming. Your leadership was full of garbage when they said open seating was going away because of customer surveys. It's clearly because the company is hitting on hard times and they're desperate. Essentially your airline is expecting me the customer to pay for their financial woes. Ain't happening. Your airline lost it completely when they shitcanned their brand and did away with open seating. Y'all are on a slippery slope to oblivion now. Hate to be negative because you're a positive, respectful guy, but unions AND greedy execs are equally culpable.

Everyone's got a opinion, that's just human nature but when so called men take big pay raises or bonuses and many walk in the door and tell their significant other that their job is down the toilet, well my heart goes out to them. I'm in my late sixties and all that is water under the bridge for me now but let me say your good people brother for having a voice out here trying to help anyway you can.

Upper management is a private club. At any time, they can convert their lucrative stock options, though sometimes they pay a penalty for early withdrawal. They have MBAs and the finance department is used to take operations' revenues for investing in other ventures often not connected to the company at all. But it is a private club and employees are not invited in a adversarial relationship. They need coverage when business is brisk but when things start to slow, they have to get creative to start layoffs while they continue their massive compensation packages. It's amazing and doesn't seem to be a whole lot the employees are able to do. SWA is a fabulous company with loyal employees and generally great management though under new majority stock ownership, changes are on the artificial horizon.

Yeah, but you never care when salaried workers get laid-off because of the increased costs of union contracts. All the major airlines have had to outsource a lot of their salaried positions, layoff salaried positions, or simply not hire in order to cut costs to afford the new pilot union contracts…if you cared your contracts would be more reasonable. The hypocrisy here is amazing - if we do not show up to the office the planes do not fly either.

Pilots; Cost money
C-Suite; Reduce pilots->less cost. Get rewarded for reducing costs to company.
People who don't understand how basic corporate decisions work: Anger

All these pilots who are furloughed should get together and create an employee-owned airline, this way everyone gets a seat at the table and everyone can also benefit from public listings of stock.

How long ago was JetBlue trying to acquire Spirit and the Feds denied it because it was uncompetitive. I wonder if both issues are a big ripple effect. I’ve flown Breeze once and really liked them. What’s the cost for an A320 pilot to get type rated on an A220?

Thanks for posting this update. First off, I wouldn't fly on Spirit if you paid me to. Their customer service is a joke. When they nickel & dime the hell out of people to fly with them, it's a recipe for disaster. Furloughing pilots and crew while the execs get a raise is BS.
Jet Blue is cutting service to 15 cities?? Anytime service is cut to/from destinations isn't good but I do understand. What bothers me is that the media has said NOTHING about this (maybe on the last page of a newspaper?). So they cut 15 destinations and Southwest eliminated service to 4. Yet Southwest is getting vilified for it?? Something is DEFINITELY wrong with this picture.

Geared engines have never been successful. Pratt and Whitney have been working on this engine for close to 1520 years. I don’t see the point why you would want these. It’s kind of typical and corporate America to lay off people and get the head dogs pay raises and bonuses been. There was another airline.

This too shall pass. We would be going gang busters if Boeing could get us our aircraft. I drank all the cool aid over the years, and see the benefits of being a 1 type airline, but it is putting all your eggs in one basket. It would be nice to see a merger with an airbus operator. That won’t happen with the current SEC leadership. I get it, consolidation can hurt consumers.

Airline economics, part tea-leaves, part roll of the dice and what was true yesterday isn't true tomorrow. I am amazed on how those on the outside looking is don't understand the shifting landscape in which airlines operate. If airline economics was routine this would be a pretty boring segment. I think every management type should see the movie "Other People's Money". Granted Danny Divito is worth the watch alone.... It is tough to try and put 'value & worth' on anybody else's labors than our own within an open market model. What I was making at the end of my career was amazing when compared with what I was making as a new-hire. Airlines are interesting when looking at the 'identities' and personalities-SWA case in point...or New York Air, COA 1 vs 2, NWO, Alaskian (always a surprise to see them pop-up in places I didn't expect them to taxi by), Sandpiper Air.

Like you said, “Nothing new here.” As you noted it happens in most industries where the royalty engorges themselves while telling the people that actually make the company work that they are having to layoff or “furlough” workers. The biggest offender in this was the financial industry. “Oh the peasants have no bread? Let them eat cake.” We know where that got the French aristocracy. 🫤
