Great points and advice, especially for those who are starting out
A Collector isn’t always in it for the love. A lot of people need to control impulses
I get a handful of day 1 releases a year, because only a handful of movies come out that are worth me owning and rewatching more than once
I don’t care about fomo because if something is limited that I want, I just pick it up because I only buy what I adore so therefore I always have money aside for the things I truly don’t want to miss out on
I’m not rich or well off by any means. Collecting should be a long and fun part of life. If you buy everything that comes out on day 1 you will end up with a collection you don’t like to look at
Hey just wanted to say I enjoyed the video and I hope you don’t have hate coming your way right now because of a certain someone
ОтветитьLuckily my rent isn't very high, still I'm trying to only buy things every couple of months nowadays to save money.
ОтветитьGoodwill outlet has been a life saver. I don’t have a job (I enjoy being home). As a collector that was the first thing to go once my lifestyle changed 2 years ago, I get fomo sometimes. But then I tell myself I’ll be ok with out buying from sales. Finding new release for Pennys on the dollar or gems that have been on my wishlist has been so much more fun and rewarding.
ОтветитьNo debt over any hobby, ever. I work on a strict budget and some months I have more than others. I have a mortgage, car payment, pets, and other adult things that need to come first. I've actually had people call me a "trust fund baby" when I've done collection videos. That always makes me laugh because they have no idea how hard I've worked to save in order to have my collection. We're all doing our best to enjoy this hobby.
I can understand very young people making the "first credit card" mistakes but hopefully they learn before they're really in trouble. We've all made mistakes and we learn and grow.
There is no movie that's worth getting into financial trouble over.
I just can't get my head around not just pulling back when you start to see you're spending too much. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
All VALID points my friend! 👍 HOWEVER, . . . . with all that taken into consideration, you can most Definitely lose out to and Pay Double or in some cases, even TRIPLE THE PRICE of what it was Originally!! 🫣😱 For example, the TERMINATOR Endoskeleton arm/hand Special Edition Collector's Set. I didn't get it at release Price, so now, it's out of Print/Stock! On eBay it goes for Way Too much for me to even get it in my Collection!! 😲😢 Also, at the time I decided not to buy a used VHS (Media edition) of KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER 🚀 SPACE on eBay, and told my self that I'll get it when it goes down in price. 🙂↔️ Well, it Didn't!! 😱 Instead, it now easily goes for over $500+ in used (VF condition) currently, and that, I Can 🚫 NOT afford because it's way out of my budget or price range!!! 😵💫😤😔😮💨😩😢😭😮💨 WTH!!!🤬!!! Good Lord!, REALLY?!?! 😲😔 So yeah, it all Depends on what you Really want for your own personal Collection. 😅 FOMO is definitely "sometimes" Necessary when warranted. 🥴 But, like you said, buy ONLY what you Really want, and that which expresses who you are as a collector, if that makes any sense. Anyhow, keep on collecting what you "Truly" love (not like), but don't brake the 🏧 bank or max out your credit 💳 card, IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT!! 😔🙏 Lord 🙄knows I CAN'T. 😭😮💨
ОтветитьHey just discovered your channel from movie and sue. She was claiming you’re “stealing her content “ I commented on her channel saying if it wasn’t for coolduder and wetmovie1 there wouldn’t be any physical media hunting content. Everyone takes inspiration from somewhere. Then she deleted my comment lol idk I think she needs a lot of growing up to do. But you just gain a sub from me!
ОтветитьWell said!
ОтветитьI try to collect only the ones my grandkids and I like . However I have bought some I wanted to see and didn’t get a chance to watch in the theater.
ОтветитьWhen it comes to premium sets, I don't mind forking out the cash fo them but they don't make them like they used to. Think of the Die Hard set with the Nakatomi tower. I regret not picking that up. Or the T2 with the Endoskeleton arm. The Ghostbusters 4K set was cool. Glad I got it before it sold out. I think the best set in my collection is the Harry Potter Wizard's Collection on bluray. That thing is a beast! I actually have a video of it. Bought for my wife for Christmas years ago.
ОтветитьI found the best way to save on new releases is going to ebay and looking for listings without slipcovers/digital codes. Many sellers buy new movies, keep the codes and/or slips and then resell the movie. I hate slips and have no need for the codes. I have saved a load of money buy going that route. I hate paying $30 for new titles. My magic number is $20.
ОтветитьNo I only got two 4K this month and 2 digital releases. And some discount DVDs. My rent and grocery bill and internet bill however is debt, lol.
ОтветитьIf you get into debt because of your hobby of physical media, you clearly have an addiction problem and as far as the topic of FOMO is concerned, you should definitely get it under control because the hobby is supposed to be a balance to the stress you otherwise have.
This Texas Chainsaw Massacre Edition is a disgrace anyway, how can you rip people off like that without blushing, no, I'm out of this collector's madness when it comes to packaging 🙅♂️
You rock!
ОтветитьHow can you be surprised?Look at the price of these boutique labels Yes they're literally physical media channels that boast about spending a thousand dollars a month on top of all the free things they get A lot of these channels have turned into commercials.Just pushing the shit is not realistic for most people
ОтветитьIf any one is in debt over physical media then who ever is has no common sense or does not know how to manage there money. And that is sad and pathetic that someone would be in debt bc of physical media spending. And all I am saying is have common sense when spending money on physical media
ОтветитьGreat topic! Awesome episode!
Wait for sales and save money for those major sales. I will NOT pay interest on physical media. I refuse. I pace myself.
Never in debt
ОтветитьPremium on top of a premium LOL. 🎃🎃
ОтветитьCollecting really demands much discipline. Companies don't help by marking up on
a markup now lol. Gone are simpler times.
I dont get in to debt. because I only buy DVD.blu-rays and 4k movies cheap. but only movies that I have seen as a child or movies that I like. I dont collect a lot of movies anymore. also there is always eBay and Amazon if I want to sell them.
ОтветитьCareful bro don't start a fistfight!🤔 No people aren't necessarily in debt over physical media alone. Americans are in credit card debt because they're living beyond their means. Like a week ago in the news they said the % of Americans in credit card debt and it was fairly high. And the total debt is in the millions or billions. I think what's happening when it comes to physical media is they have become hoarders more than collectors. I never buy more than I can afford and only cash no credit card anything. At the most I order through Needledrop record shop buy I pay in cash. I do suffer from FOMO like any collector but if I don't have the money I don't send for it. Like I said this debt is Americans trying to live above their means. Anyway good rant and cool video Mike!👍
ОтветитьI don’t get into debt where I’m struggling financially or I don’t have enough to buy the essentials but if I want something expensive (Neverending Story 💰) then I’ll use an app that’ll charge me in two months installments but I’ll never buy so much stuff when I’m in need.
ОтветитьVery good points. Good advice. I also save by letting family and friends what I want for my birthday and holiday gifts..
ОтветитьI'm surprised that more collectors are not in debt. I still don't know how many of these collectors can pick up 3 or 4 new titles every Tuesday. That's why I call myself the Baller on a Budget. Great video and practical advice.
