LG Washer - Cleaning the Drain Pump Filter (2018 Update)

For anyone wondering "How long does the drain hose take to stop dripping?! WILL it ever stop?!" It took about 25 minutes for me. Whatever you do, do not unscrew the filter part until the hose is done draining or it will flood your floor. I repeat. And make sure to run a drain cycle right before attempting this for the same reason. The instructions are not very clear about how long all this takes or the fact that you need to let the hose drain completely before unscrewing the filter, so just letting people know. I learned the hard way.

Water doesn’t come out of the hose, it all comes out of the filter. Why? This is my second LG so I know how it is supposed to work. Can you help me?

What i do is, i fold down a large plastic bag, low enough to slot under that part of the washing machine, and open the plastic cover over it and then just open the trap... Water flows over the cover into the bag.

I fixed my own dryer and washer no need for technicians anymore I love it. Thank you for the videos ❤

Can anyone help me? The little house is clogged by the looks of it. All the water comes out when you take the filter not when opening the hose.

Does anyone know where the water from the pipe comes from and why it’s there? Why does it collect in the drain pipe?

The drain pump hose on my front-loading washer retracted into the machine and I can't even see it to pull it back out. How can I access it? The plug was the only thing protruding from the hole and when I pulled gently on it, the hose disappeared. I'm afraid to run the machine if the hose isn't plugged.

The instructions (including written) should note that the pump filter should be reinserted a specific way (I believe with the "open" side of the filter facing up) to insert smoothly and insure a tight closure. Unfortunately an entire wash cycle leaked out our machine's pump filter and soaked our basement. However, the LG agent in customer service was able to help me figure out the problem by running a spin cycle, and I reinserted the pump and cover after figuring out the best position.

Our sink kept filling up and almost overflowing and the machine was getting an FE erroe code with water still in the tub. I hope this works because the machine is only a few years old as in 4 yrs old

How do you clean deeper behind the filter my clothes are getting ruined with a odd gray stain and the filter & housing has a gray substance on it I put a brush up there and there is more up in the pipe and it’s ruined so many of my clothes

Surely in this day and age they could come up with a better design for this pump filter drain.remember the old top load with the agitator with a SIMPLE lint screen?Could they have designed it with a drain that works?it’s right on floor and I have to use a cookie sheet to catch the water.I think the washer works ok but this filter drain was designed by morons.I do mine once a month and then do a tub clean cycle and check the filter again

does the filter, after cleaning be positioned certain way ? Mine seems to be clogging water flow and causing LE error.

ATTENTION!!! Why LG doesn't tell you the filter has to go in with the OPEN SIDE UP is very unfortunate! I had to learn the hard way. Thanks to the commenter who mentioned this AFTER I had to mop the whole floor because of the water pouring out of the improperly inserted filter. I hope this helps someone from the flood I had to deal with.

If anyone’s worried about a smell I’m pretty sure it’s just cause you close the door after a wash you shouldn’t do that you should keep it open so the water on the rubber by the door can dry off completely this could also cause mold if not kept up

Anyone deal with a kink in the hose? I don't get any water out of the hose when I unplug the cap, instead all the water rushes out when I unscrew the filter, super annoying as it's hard to catch it all with a thin pan. Any advice would help on how to get the hose flowing again.

DO NOT USE ANY PAN you use for cooking to collect the filter water. The water that comes out of there can be disgusting and sewage smelling if you don't empty it often.

❤ First time EVER doing this to my washer. Followed the instructions and BAM! Mrsfixit! Showed hubby the filter, and he said, "Why didn't you tell me?" Gotta love my man. But this woman ain't afraid to get her hands dirty! 😂
