Since when a machine gun like that was supposed to be dead accurate? It's job, I imagine, was to suppress infantry, make enemy to crawl and scare the shit out of it. And I believe MG's have done the job much, much better, then any other counterpart gear at the time.
What German army lacked in manpower it compensated with a superior weaponry. MG's, MP40's, 88's, STG 44's (which basically was worldwide most famous AK47), and so on. German Luftwaffe was first army in the history to have jet fighters actually in service ( I believe almost 1500 ME-262 were built).
Last months of the war it was just and only race between USSR and USA, race to get to Berlin first and to steal as much technology, as much resources and as much scientists as possible.

So 16 hits vs 24 hits but the German uses 3 times the ammo so therefore fires at a rate 3 times of that American counter part.
Therefore in the same amount of time 16 x 3 = 48 hits (90 fired) vs 24 hits (30 fired). This is if their test is accurate they were trying to make the MG look bad so may actually be more accurate then tested here. Conclusion is the MG has more bullets hitting the target in the same given time. The other assumption is that those 'missed' bullets didn't actually go on to hit another target.

The problem with american machine guns of that era was that they didn't go where you wanted them to go! They were not designed to be portable, lacked easily interchangeable barrels, and they weren't as light as the German MG's. There's a reason why america copied the German MGs and didn't further develop their own machine guns.

Yep. MG42's and 34's were great at holding chokepoints and avenues of approach because anyone who passed through them was almost certainly going to get hit the moment they popped their head out. But the M1919 was better at covering a [wide area] of fire and creating a wall of fire to prevent an advancing charge from coming through without having to reload right away and with less chance of overheating.

Yes, this is propaganda, the point is valid. The MG42 had a kick like a mule & you only have to watch one firing (off the bipod) and it bucks up significantly. This is why they were trained to fire short bursts, from prone. It would have done a fine job in suppression, but ammo consumption and need for barrel changes, were disadvantages. It was not the war winning weapon that many make it out to be. Good, but not without drawbacks.
