When you realize that Subaru isn't 4wd, it is AWD. Which is MASSIVELY different. AWD puts power to all wheels if (AND ONLY IF) all wheels can take the power, when a single wheel loses traction it reverts to a single wheel. That Subaru went to 2wd in which the wheels with power are the ones with no traction. Locking diffs are key for a reason, and 4wd is king in traction.
I wish people realized that AWD is not all 4 wheel being driven. It is a 2 wheel drive with 1 being front and 1 being rear. Sure, if both front/rear wheels have traction it will give both wheels, any slippage on one of those wheels and you are no better than a RWD or FWD car.

It’s AWD not 4x4. AWD allows slippage between the front and rear driveshafts, and the diffs allow slippage between the wheels.
You can’t teach anyone SHIT if you don’t know how AWD works.
