Man, that one brand was really bad. Fun paintings!
ОтветитьI really liked the painting with the schpirrer farber paint, it was so pretty....But I also probably wouldn’t buy that paint. Daniel smith YES. Paul Rubens maybe. I have heard really good things about M. Graham so I am putting money aside to get a nice set of that brand.
ОтветитьLove that you're doing these tests. It truly helps to know what not to buy. Love your bloopers. I have to keep mine in on my channel because I'm still such a beginner. 😜🤣
ОтветитьThank you.
So glad to know Daniel Smith passed with flying colors. If you add to that palette, I would suggest Burnt Sienna and Neutral tint.
Paul Reubens paint was impressive. Maybe save the hot press sketchbook for gouache.
Have a great day.
I have a Paul Reuben cold press tiny sketchbook and I just don’t like the paper. I won’t be repurchasing. I do love that the paints passed the lightfast test. Yay and go Daniel Smith! It’s awesome paint!
ОтветитьThe bloopers!!!🤣🤣🤣 reminded me of that song 🎵 VAAAAAAALERIEEEEEE 🎶...and then „...oh! smiles there is some gunfire in the backyard*still smiles*...wait, I‘ll be back...“ 😂 You are hilarious...I can’t stop laughing...
ОтветитьI was surprised how the Paul Ruben paints held up in the test as they are pretty affordable, I may need to put them on my wish list! Also I love how the paintings turned out, it's fun to just move the paint around and create something pretty. :)
ОтветитьI'm glad I helped you in my way. These Paul rubens watercolours seems great. Have a great week. V.
ОтветитьAwesome video! Thanks so much for sharing!♥️
Ответитьi have all of these paints i love them all i liked the price of paul rubens tubes 5 ml so much i bought 2 of them the 2nd one was only 23.00
ОтветитьIoved the last painting even though it is not lightfast. Your pets are adorable. I love watching them. Your bloopers are funny. Thank you for this wonderful video. It is the highlight of my Tuesday.
ОтветитьAgain, thanks for taking the time in doing this video. Beautiful paintings. I especially like the second one. When I was painting, I never worried about the lightfastness issue. I was in a number of galleries and sold a lot of paintings. I feel guilty now with the possibilities of my paintings fading.
ОтветитьThank you for sharing the colour lightfast tests. Lol! My favourite part. Pulling the tape off!
Ответитьt's crazy how much that paint set faded. Such a shame because your painting was so pretty! The Paul Rubens ones are really impressive though! I'm pretty sure the front and back sides are the same in the Etchr books.
ОтветитьI think those Schpirrer paints are fine when used in a sketchbook since it will be almost never exposed to light. But for paintings you want to display on the wall.... no ;-)
ОтветитьPaul Rubens professional is great paint, especially for the price. It performs very well throughout the line for lightfastness (other than neons, metallics, etc which is true of every brand). Daniel Smith has major issues. They have been found to lie on their lightfastness ratings.. not just once or twice but over and over. Their primateks are also falsely labelled, containing a bare fraction of the minerals claimed and filled with cheap common pigments.. many of those are not lightfast as well even though they are labelled LF1. Then to make matters even worse undisclosed fugitive fluorescent dyes have been found in a few paints as well. Very untrustworthy brand. You can do okay with basic shades but there are so many other companies out there with the same quality and with the ethics not to lie and steal from their customers. I highly regret the hundreds of dollars I invested in their products before I knew better.
ОтветитьGreat work! This is so useful
ОтветитьI cut mine in half and lost the half that was not on the window 😅 so I thought this was genius
ОтветитьFascinating. Not surprised at the results for Schpirerr Farben but they sure did paint a pretty picture.
ОтветитьI love the daniel smith lightfast test. Makes me wanna try them1
ОтветитьHey there, you did a grest job putting this together, it's alot of work 🙂 as a professional artist and Bookbinder... I test ALL of my supplies I buy.... even fabrics I use for my watercolor sketchbook line. I mostly use goatskin leather from Italy and France.... but I do use linens with leather on quarter and half binding styles, and I test to see if the dyes used are okay. Anyways, I test ALL supplies and every color, even if it's " lighfast " rating is excellent. My studio and bindery looks like an art shop, more than a studio lol. I use alot of different mediums.... so it's a very tedious process, but very much needed. I only use professional artist grade materials and I only use 100% cotton papers in my art and sketchbooks ( I have the options of Arches, Saunders Waterford, Fabriano Artistico, Stonehenge and Canson in my sketchbooks) I use colored pencils, watercolor pencils, pigment watercolor Markers, pigmented liquid watercolors, pigment inks, watercolors, pastel pencils and soft pastels, fluid acrylics and acrylic Markers, Gouache and acrylic gouache.... and some other mediums. The key to testing lightfastness is to swatch everything out in GRADIENTS and Use the paper that you will always use. I've learned the hard way on just swatching mass tones. Most watercolors are used watered down and in lighter washes, that's where they will fail the most on you. I've been shocked with things that were supposed to be extremely lightfast and werent.... and things that were not supposed to be lighfast, be very good lol. I swatch everything from absolute mass tone - to nothing and it's the best way to see how they do through their entire color range. There are way to many colors in watercolor that will perform extremely well in mass tone, and extremely bad in the mid ranges or fade out to bare white paper... specially in light washes. So I just wanted to give you a heads up on that because I hate to see any artists have a nasty surprise on their hard work. So for the rant and if you are aware of this... then just tell me to shove off hahahaha 😆 have a great day.
ОтветитьLightfastness hás more to do with pigment than everything else, some pigments are lightfast others aren't, and the big brands usually have a mix of Best lightfast, reasonable and poor
