hi. ex-tor project here.
1. Each tor browser tab uses its own circuit. anyone can easily validate this by looking at the circuit made in each tab. so you can safely keep identities separate just by using different tabs. however, going from one log-in site to a non-log-in site in the same tab, within the circuit refresh time (10 minutes), one might accidentally tip off surveillance (ads) from site to site. at least, large exit relays are exiting for thousands of people at the same time, so there is still some protection. You also don't need to restart Tor each time you want a new tor circuit. you can refresh the circuit manually from within a tab, or you can just open a new tab.
2. using tor to log into sites, even facebook, still gives the user physical location privacy. it protect where they are physically. this is essential for domestic violence survivors, especially those who might have abusers who know their log in credentials and are able to see where they are logging in from based on past IPs logged in from, which some services show the user.

Often when Tor is blocked I use some free proxy as last hop. Sadly this sometimes breaks some sites.

Here's another trick to defeat timing correlation attack.
But note that even without it, these type of attacks are wildly impractical and even in theory would result in EXTREMELY low confidence of deanonymization.
The trick is to run a Tor node on the same network as you use to connect to Tor for your own use.
Because Tor cell traffic packets are deliberately made to look indistinguishable from one another, including traffic running into the network from outside of it, it would be impossible to tell whether you are making a Tor connection of your own accord or merely relaying forward others' Tor traffic.
Just don't run exit nodes, because those often get blacklisted by websites as Tor's anonymity also sadly attracts DDoSers and so you might not be able to connect to them even through surface-net.

EDIT: Some other anonymization networks such as I2P even require that you also act as a relay if you want to use them, although this is primarily an anti-DDoS measure, since as I've said, such attacks are completely impractical and even theoretically highly unlikely and unreliable.

The Brave browser has the option to open "new private window with Tor", it also has an integrated VPN option. I was hoping you might be able to provide some useful commentary on the reliability of this way of accessing Tor and the Brave browser generally.

The curious thing is my Tor will not save passwords or ask to save passwords at logins. This is curious because I have that function box ticked in settings, but for some reason the program refuses to write PW's to the disk. I wish I knew how to fix it. I understand why Tor has it defaulted because it conflicts with other privacy functions of the program and defeats some aspects of security, but it sure is annoying.

It's very surprising that the Tor people believe there is only one ENGLISH language (US English) to choose from on the language settings. I suppose they have no idea that a country called England (or United Kingdom) exists. As soon as I found that out, I eliminated Tor Browser from my system. How dare they!.
