Join us for an insightful discussion with Award Winning Historian Dr. Crystal R. Sanders, moderated Dr. Everett B. Ward. The talk covers the significance of Juneteenth.

Dr. Crystal R. Sanders is an award-winning historian of the United States in the twentieth century. Her research and teaching interests include African American History, Black Women's History, and the History of Black Education. She received her BA (cum laude) in History and Public Policy from Duke University and a Ph.D. in History from Northwestern University. She is an Associate Professor of History and the former Director of the Africana Research Center at Pennsylvania State University. During the 2020-2021 academic year, she is a fellow at the National Humanities Center.

Dr. Everett B. Ward is a former member of the Raleigh Historical Properties Commission and the 35th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the nation’s first African American intercollegiate Greek-lettered fraternity. Dr. Ward has volunteered some 34 years to preserve and document African American history.
