A catch 22 of modern instruction “the body swing takes timing out and u can ‘rotate’ thru as hard as h want”. This never digested w me bc if u have a “Hovland” body rotational swing it is still timing and dependent on ur range of motion that day. Which is easy if u r pga working out every day and not sitting at ur 9-5 desk job like most of us who having varying ranges of flexibility based on what we did that week / pre round warm up. Ultimately there will always b an element of timing in the swing. If there was no timing then y do body swingers still have big misses like the rest of us (eg Hovland hangs one out to the left bc it doesn’t cut). Will admit the “body” based instruction has merit (eg I think low point control much better if ur body rotation is solid)
ОтветитьThis is exactly what I was referring to in a past video. There is a ton of rotation just before impact. How that is controlled is a mystery to me.
ОтветитьThat was an excellent review. I prefer the easier swing on the body. I remember the old saying, it's all in the wrists lol. Your teaching has really helped me. Thank you Chuck.
ОтветитьMickelson also releases hard like this, rather than strictly body rotation--no holding off of the release at all, and he did pretty well.... He also tends to get the club way past parallel on the backswing, like Knapp does. And Daly.
ОтветитьIs that an optical illusion?
Look at the clubface at impact, looks like pointing way up and out to the right into the trees.
how is that not a high looping slice?
I was hoping you could answer a question for me I have this same swing long backswing I’m more across the line unfortunately I would love to fix that but my question is I have run into a good amount of elbow pain and was told it was because I’m a lot of hands and arms just like this I come from
A hockey and baseball background do you think this is true this swing will cause your elbows to hurt thanks
Crazy flexibility…….if you look at early Nicklaus swing…his wrist were very straight until last minute on back swing
ОтветитьI was very excited when I saw his swing. It did seem GOATy with the wide extension. I cannnot tell if he is casting early,
ОтветитьWhen he’s on with this style of swing he’s on but when his timing or feel is off, he struggles.
ОтветитьOne thing that resonates with me is how long is right foot stays connected to the ground. I was told to kick off the right foot as soon as possible, similar to how Justin Thomas does it, and I just couldn’t get it. I took a lesson from a local pro and he told me to keep my foot on the ground for as long as I can and just swing the club with my hands and it was the easiest feeling ever
ОтветитьThe clue for me about his speed and release is that on any full swing, even w driver, it looks like a flop shot, which is a very handsy shot.
Ответитьfunny, on tv is doesn't look that long, that backswing would put me in traction......
ОтветитьEffortless Speed is the new Passive Income!
ОтветитьAll you said is correct but about the amount of extension, it all depends on the grip.
ОтветитьJust like John daily over swing power 😊
ОтветитьHaving had back and spine issues in the past trying the body rotation swing, I am 100% in agreement with Chuck that the hand/wrist release swing is the way to go for a swing that will work for many years!
ОтветитьThere are a couple of things that stand out to me watching this video. The width and length of his backswing, and his lower body stability just before impact, at impact and just past impact. Just an awesome looking swing, swinging this fast and being in such control
ОтветитьCam Champ swing and load and unload is very similar. Effortless power.
ОтветитьWah,pantas aku suka
ОтветитьSo this is a ' late wrist set?
ОтветитьAs per Mike Austin, there is no 'holding the lag' and the rotational response of the arms through the hit is intent started right from the top of the swing.
I just pummelled 3 woods at the range flying 250 through the air by feeling like I let my hands cross over fluidly and quickly through impact. The exact opposite of what I was coached for years. But the intent must begin from transition otherwise it happens too late to be effective when the clubhead gets to the ball.
It feels like I'm beginning the process of flinging the clubhead toward the target through the ball right from transition. In fact, the more a did it and the longer my downswing felt, the straighter and more piercing the flight became.
Please explain what happened to his swing on Sunday. How to avoid under pressure.
ОтветитьWhen you start to master the timing of this rotation, does it “feel” slower and more controlled? Or, is it simply matching up the grip, snapping the wrists over hard and fast, and relying on tempo to square the face?
ОтветитьLook how quiet his legs/flat his feet are at impact - that’s insane for someone who generates that much speed with seemingly such little effort. Almost makes Couples looks like he’s coming out of his shoes (though he’s always said he actually swings pretty hard).
ОтветитьI'm actually surprised to see he doesn't do the typical big hitter lead leg post at impact where they get practically airborne for a fraction of a second.
ОтветитьGreat video and analysis. Chuck listening to your insights and explanations have helped me so much with changing to a rotary swing. Not to mention how easy it is on the body. After a round I would be basically useless for the rest of the day but now I can play pain free and in comfortable shoes (no more need for spikes). Cannot thank you enough. Your contributions to golf instruction are invaluable. Thank you so much for a swing I can hopefully make for the rest of my life. 🤞🏼
ОтветитьThis whole approach is so fantastic. Was swinging today and swinging driver up around 106 to 107 swing speed….have never been there before and it felt effortless again like you said with Jack N…. drive the hips to the target and throw the club from the top so much easier than swinging with the body really excited.
ОтветитьChuck,
Is the club face pointing the wrong direction at the top of the backswing ?
Greaaaat breakdown. I guess my question is, how do you get square at impact?
I can hit 9 windows off of the deck with everything up to my 3wood.
When i put it up on a tee, my D and 3wood tend to turn right. I've been playing for years and as i've become a better player, my long tee game has become more and more spinny...
I would prefer you discuss the right wrist, because, with your right (trail) wrist is in complete flexion, the left wrist must be in extension. The right wrist then stays in flexion in the downswing by internally rotating the right wrist, while in complete flexion, as fast as possible from the top of the downswing. It stays that way until the club shaft is parallel to the ground. This keeps your right elbow close to your body and leading until club shaft parallel, where the right wrist then begins to throw the clubhead at the ball for a powerful release, and effortless power has you always talk about. To me, it is more about the right wrist action than the left wrist because the right wrist is doing all the work. Thinking and focusing on the right wrist instead of the left, you get the same results you discuss about the left wrist, but no have intention focused on what is actually creating the power and release, which is the right wrist. Does this make sense?
ОтветитьDoes Jake throw from the top like tiger and jack! Thanks for great videos!
ОтветитьHis left arm is noticeably bent on the downswing.
ОтветитьRory also has a pretty significantly cupped lead wrist at the top. Would love to see a breakdown of his swing here too sometime!
ОтветитьI think this is way faster and easier on body. If you can hang on late release aka full hand release you can get longer shots it does take a considerable amount of timing/practice to get out of not hardly releasing with hands but it works
ОтветитьI’ve Always had fast hands I gotta get back to this
ОтветитьI have a theory that it's because he's left-handed playing right-handed! I think his clubs are very high balanced or even counterbalanced with heavy overall weight. If you look at his positions and the things he does it's not like the typical ways that you guys always recommend getting power. There's not any type of dramatic extension with his hips there's not any type of dramatic vertical force that you can see in all these things that that everyone talks about. I think he is swinging a heavy Club overall what's much more weighted toward the handle and he is just turning and releasing that club the majority of the leverage and the power is coming from his lead side! Can't find anyone to confirm this and I can never find actual information online but that is 100% my theory right now and I'm at a point where I'm getting sick of trying to research this stuff because nobody gives you any real information. Even when I go to look up what's in the bag it doesn't tell me anything specifically about the clubs he has except what model they are which has nothing to do with the way his tweaked them
ОтветитьDoesn’t a hand release also require really good timing?
ОтветитьNot sure if I would agree that these wrist are in extension. There is no angle that would provide evidence for cupping. It’s more radial deviation.
