Absolute respect for the melody in the head, then he totally blows the roof with his unique pigmy yodel very musically.

ОтветитьPossible brother an innovative creative brother from East St Louis Illinois
ОтветитьLeon was the man! A classic!
ОтветитьWow!
ОтветитьLove this!
ОтветитьMy first time hearing this masterpiece was today which is literally Fathers day 🥺 Hope everyone is blessed today 💖
ОтветитьWhat a beautiful tribute to Fathers! Horace version is wonderful but Leon took it to a whole nother level.
ОтветитьHeard Leon live back in the late 90's in the Jazz cafe London, he sounded better than the record live music from the gods 🔥🔥🔥
ОтветитьDeepest thanks to Galen "Fats" Robinson, flutist, composer and brother friend for playing this once for me as I have never ceased listening to brother Leon's yodels since.
ОтветитьI’ve been listening to this since I was 24. I’m 70.
ОтветитьFirst heard this on WJZZ in Detroit while working the midnight shift in the emergency room when I was 17. Called the station to inquire the name of the song and the artist singing. I still sing this to honor my dad and grandpa because they were the man.
Ответитьthis fantastic song does NOT paint my father's picture :P
me, a gay guy
I never knew who sang this . Horace Silver had the instrumental version of this.
ОтветитьAlways Philly Love
ОтветитьMy passed during the pandemic. Today is his birthday & I always think of this song & memories of “My Dad The Man”…..🎶
ОтветитьJust heard this piece on WBGO, sitting in my son's car, while he's with his 4 yr old shopping. My other son too is shopping for the Christmas holidays. This song deeply move me to tears. I was a Dad!

ОтветитьStood by me so I could be unafraid and free.
ОтветитьMan this Song gives me chills thinking about my dad!!! I miss him😊
ОтветитьIs this the earliest vocal version of this song?
The original song form (from Horace Silver's album) was A-A-B, here and on Groove Holmes" version it's A-A-B-A.
This causes confusion with people performing it.
Superb ❤
ОтветитьTHE FIRST GOD I KNEW WAS MY POPE, WHY, BECAUSE HIS GOD MADE HIM FROM THE CREAM OF THE CROP, SO I'M TOP OF THE CROP CAUSE I'M FROM POPE, OR I'M A C O P , CHRISTIAN ON PATROL ! ! !
ОтветитьMy son wished me Fathers Day this one passed. He published it in a special way by saying how forever grateful he is because I raised him on Jazz. He sent the recording “Song For My Father “ by Horace Silver.

ОтветитьWhen I first heard this rendition of “song for my father” I fainted like one of those startled fainting goats, it was so exhilarating
ОтветитьMy Daddy passed today..87, and I'm playing this loud for him
ОтветитьI first heard this on WKDU radio broadcast out of Drexel University. They were playing great music in the early 70's .
ОтветитьThe whole album
ОтветитьThis song brings tears to my eyes. I think of my father who was blessed to become an ancestor on his birthday at the age of 88. Love and Gratitude Daddy.
ОтветитьI lost both my parents two years ago when I was 47 and never in a million years did I think that they’d go before I was even 50…they would’ve been married 60 years this year. not Covid, they were both super healthy skinny nonsmokers their whole lives. But this song epitomizes my dad, both of them actually…I miss them so much I cry every day many times a day
ОтветитьMy daddy Eddie 💞🙏🏾🤍🕊️ I always think of you listening 🎧.
ОтветитьI knew the Silver melody for a long time but only recently heard the lyrics. My dad was "the man" and it's hard not to get emotional hearing this beautiful, beautiful tribute to fatherhood - or to any older trusted and trustworthy man that loved and guided us well. I miss you beautiful daddy...
Ответить"Song For My Father" from the pen of Leon Thomas
"...If there were ever a man that was generous, gracious, & good, that was my dad. Tha man..."
Man I miss my pops 😢

ОтветитьA masterpiece that is even more special on this father's day that reflects my dad.
