Dare I say it, this Gundam series are the most grounded to reality.

This and turn a got me into gundam, I'm watching Mobile suit gundam right now, and can't wait to get to zeta, I've heard a lot of good things about it.

O8th MS Team is one of my favorites. I love the parallels between the EZ8 and the Sherman Tank. Definitely the most grounded series of the Universe. Also, nice touch with the Front Mission 4 remix! I heard it, and immediately went back to my PS2 days.

peak gundam. My girlfriend asked to watch gundam with me and this is where we started, this an origin are amazing and we need more like this. I honestly feel like if 0079 got a redraw in the style of origin and 08th team gundam would explode again. builders is neat and reminds me of metabots but all this super robot nonsense is not why I watched gundam. I liked gundam hathaway and havent seen wom yet but 08th team not only had some of the best fights it has some of the best cleanest and realistic suits I also like what Zodiac Corp has in wing, the LEO and ARES look like something that would actually be built

Hot Take: The 08th MS Team is trash. The only good things it has going for it are the suits and the animation, but the story and characters are mediocre at best.

Miller's Report uses footage from episodes 7-8 plus 1 and 6 along with new animation. OVA's backstory is about Federation Officer Alice Miller investigating 8th MS team after events of episode 7. It can not be truly called a compilation movie, because story quite differs from series although it uses some material from OVA. More like complimentary sub-story/spinoff story which intersects with episode 8 and fills some gaps between episodes 8 and 9 adding some extra bits to the story. If you are completionist you should definitely watch it because it does add to the story.
Small nitpick: Ez8 is not a new Gundam, it is hastily repaired original RX79 Shiro had. They had to improvise with what parts they had - thatswhy Karen's Gundam has replacement GM head earning it nickname "GM head". They did not had enough spare parts to conduct proper repairs since Gundam type mobile suits are rare.
P.S. One of the few times Karen is actually a positive character, heh.

Definitely one of my favourite Gundam series on so many aspects

Growing up I wasn't the biggest fan of the series as it was far different than Gundam Wing which was my like many 90's kids our introduction to Gundam but as I fou d Gundam Zeonic Front and fell love with that cast of characters this Gundam series very much grew on me because they are very close in look and fell. Most definitely a very solid Gundam series for sure.

My favorite gundam series also Ez 8 isn't a "New gundam" it's the same mech that fell down the cliff and rebuilt using parts from a GM and whatever else they could cobble together but outside of salvaged parts they also used equipment for fighting in space. Yes Shiro had input and yes some combat data was used to direct the repair but the unit was just his old one repaired with spare parts and salvage because the UEF didn't trust him with another machine. This is backed up with "GM head" aka Karen's Gundam when it's head was blown off they just cobbled a GM head onto it.

I wish they did more grounded gundam series like this. I liked that they werent a special gundam unit but just one of many doing missions in this bigger war. But that door has closed. Need that 90's animation touch that they don't do anymore

Hands down, 8th MS is my favorite, followed closely by G Gundam.

we need more gundam rooted in some kinda reality of real people in real war. not new types and lots of cannon fodder gm/zakus dying to randomly op ms or newtype pilots

My older sister loved gundam wing but I could never get into it. I was like 11 years old and I was more into dbz and zoids but I watched 1 episode of 8th ms team and was hooked. I feel like there was more tension in 8th ms team and you could feel that the hero characters could actually be in danger.

Yuri isn't in charge of the Apsalus project, he's the one in charge of that area of the front. His command is completely separate from that of the Apsalus project.

i'm still wishing they would introduce gundams and gms that has actually camo colors on them or at least colors similar to the ones used on the zaku, in this sort of jungle warfare type story. the whole "to make marketable toys" excuse, kinda fell part considering that even zeon mobile suit gunpla that is more militaristic in design is also as popular as the classic gundam's bright color scheme

When it was released in 1996, it took me 5 years to finally watched it. It was on DVD release.

I've already finished the line of gunpla for this timeline though. It's the Easy 8. All the 1:144 versions for easy storage

I consider 08th MS Teams, 0080, and 0083 to be the Holy Trinity of Gundam.

Gundam wing was great. Gundam Seed was better. Gundam 00 was a work of art. They tried to replicate Gundam 00 with Iron Blooded Orphans. It was good. But not as good.

8th MS Team for me is the best at what the everyday with these weapons is like. They're powerful but can't walk through everything or can fight anywhere easily. They need regular maintenance, and pilots have to know to repair them in the field. Conventional weapons are still a problem especially against a determined and prepared force. What weapons you're using or being used against you matters. It's a series that builds on the lore of Gundam. It's like Halo, the story we follow is about Master Chief but the lore is about humanity, civilizations (not just our own), progress, advancement.

Those three zeon soldiers really had a sad death. If I remember correctly, two of the soldiers were actually pretty good people. One made small trinkets out of shell casings for the small kids of the village, and had a wife and kid to go back to. And the leader, just wanted to everyone to sit and wait until either backup or more supplies came and protect what teammates she had left. Something along those lines. They had just been in a previous fire fight and lost one of there teammates. Who I think sacrificed himself for them? Anyways, One dude on the team was a huge jerk. He's the one that kicked off the battle between the rebels and this crew. With The MS 08th team showing up at the last moment and finishing them off. Such sad deaths. Well for the rest of the team. Excluding the dude angered the rebels. He was a huge jerk. Fun/sad fact. The manga for this is actually really dark. The rebel leaders daughter, well. She dies in a very horrific way. I don't remember if it was Zeon or the federation that did it, or just a bunch of random criminal's. Although in the anime she doesn't die. I won't go into her death, since it was by no means. As quickly and as painlessly as possible. But for those who do want to know, ummmmm. She died being forced into doing something unwillingly. That is absolutely a crime, by a gang of men. Who then silenced her after they were done. Yeah, really dark. Why I am very happy she lives in this anime and this event of the anime is what shall always be canonical to me. I am happier knowing she is alive and that didn't happen.

This had one of the best Action Mecha Fights in all of Anime.

I really enjoy when Gundam gives us pilots who succeed through their own extreme skill and not their newtype potential. Norris is a great example, though Yazan Gable in Zeta Gundam is still imo the peak of this. It's kinda terrifying that he still doesn't have a canon death.

08th ms team is my favorite Gundam series for all of its' merits, Stardust Memory is my favorite by nostalgia as it was one of the first DVDs I ever owned... And your right, the romance is done so much better in 08

The ground type Gundam is honestly my favorite design because of the simplicity. No crazy thrusters, no gimmicks, just a tanky Gundam suit built like a tank.

Interesting concept of a series mired in production issues, including the director's death and the writer stepping away midway through. It's a pretty series but the story is weak and parades as a gritty take on the OYW but never has the balls to explore it fully. Instead, it focuses on the weak romance plot, which overshadows character motivations and logic throughout.

I like the realistic touches to piloting a multi ton bipedal vehicle. It has weight and momentum. It makes sense for the vibration sensing truck would be highly useful on the battlefield although drones I think would be a sick addition if they wanted to make a reboot of 08th MS team. Although modern tanks have thermal optics and nightvision I don't think the Gundams would need to use non infrared lighting as depicted in the show especially given the year of when this is supposed to happen. Seems like mobile suits and other other equipment would be using modern camouflage as well as electronic countermeasures. Support services such as artillery and airstrike ranging and call outs would be a good detail as well. Tankers wear helmets and torso protection for the effect of spall has on the inside of a vehicle and a Gundam should be no different. Showing reactive armor to defeat incoming explosives would also be a sick detail to add. The ball scene for the record was my most favorite scene. Coaxial autocannons in the head actually makes a lot of sense. The last few episodes given the pacing of release just left me confused - and I care about this episode why?

I've heard it pronounced "Oh eighth MS team" and that threw me for a loop as a kid.

The 12th episode is supposed to be a farewell to the series original director who passed away mid production. That's why it has this "afterlife" vibe to it with the whole ambiguity on whether the kids were alive or not (and the corpse resembling Aina) and why it has a metaphorical tone in comparison to the rest of the series.

I carried a piece of this anime with me all the way into my adulthood. The part where they're in the desert and he's making the moisture condenser, I had a situation in my actual life where I had to implement that and it actually made a terrible situation much better

The show that sucked me into this franchise

08th ms team uses the film trilogy time line instead of TV one in the 2nd film White Base misses Odessa leaving room for the Rx-79[G] to fill the role of the Gundam in Europe the Ground Type of ms are built using Rx-78-1 prototype Gundam parts rejected by team lead Ray but the Army wanted to test MS battalions and defective hiend parts are still high end

This is by far, one of the best Gundam offerings in the series, Gundam 0083 and Gundam 0080 war in the pocket. Also love Gundam Unicorn and Iron Blooded Orphans.
