This video is just amazing and even got me teary eyed as I can relate as a learning disabled person. I’m also impressed with how ahead of its time this was. However, I wish someone would make something like this geared for understanding adults with learning disabilities, people need to understand that a learning disability does not disappear once someone reaches adulthood, it is lifelong and we will always have to learn and do certain things differently.
ОтветитьThis brought back a lot of painful memories. Required viewing.
ОтветитьThis is one of the best videos I have ever watched.
ОтветитьThis man is a televangelist and a crook. He really doesn’t give a care about kids. It’s all about money.
ОтветитьThis workshop is just amazing. So far ahead of its time and so use full.
ОтветитьMY DOCTOR SENT ME THIS LINK YESTERDAY. I'M SERIOUSLY GRATEFUL FOR IT. AND THIS INSTRUCTOR WAS HIGHLY SKILLED (SEEMED TO HAVE AN AUCTIONEER'S GIFT FOR SPEED-TALKING AND WAS BEYOND QUICK ON HIS FEET), KNOWLEDGEABLE AND IN MANY WAYS THIS CONTENT WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIME. BUT IT'S FROM 1989, AND IT'S NOW 2023. IS THERE NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT THAT IS MORE UP-TO-DATE? IF ANYONE KNOWS, PLS ADVISE?
AGAIN, THIS WAS WONDERFULLY PRESENTED AND STILL INVALUABLY INFORMATIVE.
This is a wonderful video. Timeless!
ОтветитьSaw this video over 20 years ago in graduate school, and t is STILL the BEST educational video I have ever seen.
Ответитьthe ads at the beginning are obnoxious!
ОтветитьTeachers that have been teaching for years NEED to watch/rewatch this to treat their students better!
ОтветитьI wonder if this video is available in Spanish, if anyone knows please let me know thanks
ОтветитьKudos to that epic camera crew who are somehow able to record this event from a multitude of perspectives without us seeing any of them. And i dont imagine there was any retakes.
ОтветитьThis is one of the very best video's I've ever watched. As a teacher and as a parent of a child with learning disabilities, I've never seen anything more eye-opening and educational. Superb! (Viewed in 2024)
ОтветитьVERY well done. I still remember (previous millennium) having to take a Developmental Reading course when I started college. It was two semesters and to pass you needed to show progress from beginning to end. I had a lot of fun with it (cranked the film strip projector up to 540 wpm) but there were people in my class with grade 5 reading levels. An old friend was diagnosed with dyslexia when she started university. By having oral exams and having people read books onto tape (not to mention and incredible amount of work on her part) she graduated on the Dean's Honour List and won a Commonwealth Scholarship to do her PhD. She is now Dr. D.
ОтветитьThis is still relevant today. I would like to see Rich Lavoie make an updated presentation of this.
ОтветитьAmazing video, despite its age and some of the old terminology. I wish my teachers watched this!
ОтветитьI remember watching this video getting my teaching degree almost 20 years ago, and I’m in tears because I thought I would never see it again! Thank you!
Ответитьamazing work.
ОтветитьWhat impacted me the most is that sarcasm is real in the classroom and when it happens it creates an uncomfortable environment for the student. I am so glad that the teachers and parents were able to sit on the other side of the desk to see how it feels.
Three ways teachers can support students with learning disabilities is by having patience a positive attitude and implementing positive reinforcements.
Really important video to show us learning disabilities. Nice work. Best video for teachers and parents.
Ответитьthis is the most insightful learning tool
ОтветитьIt needs to be de-interlaced
ОтветитьThis video must be dated as soon I I heard the " R word" I immediately checked out
ОтветитьThis was fantastic and such an eye opener. Thank you for creating this video.
ОтветитьThis impacted me so much..& Inspired me to be a more caring teacher for 20 years.

ОтветитьJust brilliant! If only all teachers could be so empathetic and considerate. Kids don't want to have things easy, they like to be challenged, but fairly
ОтветитьThis video was probably recorded in the 1980s or 1990s. Does anyone know if the information is still relevant today? Overall, an excellent workshop! asking in 2024
ОтветитьI watched this 33 years ago when I was in school for special education. It still smacks today.
ОтветитьI first saw this more than 30 years ago, and it changed my family's life. I realized what was happening with my 6-year-old daughter, and it forever changed how I teach. I bought VHS and DVDs of this and gave copies to every teacher in my daughter's school. Most teachers thanked me. I am still happy to contribute to Mr. Lavoie and Eagle School to thank them forever for this amazing video.
ОтветитьExtraordinary video..always felt the same that the world is blaming the victim in the mask of helping... unknowingly though..real eye opener for parents n Teachers
ОтветитьI was assigned to watch this video as a homework assignment and I am so glad that it was. This video is truly amazing. As a future inclusive early childhood educator, this video helped me gain more of a perspective of how to better understand my students with disabilities and how to better accommodate them. AMAZING video.
ОтветитьI saw this video in college as part of my education classes for exceptional students. I still return to it again and again for review and to glean more. It's been 10 years since I graduated with my degree. This is an invaluable resource for anyone who wishes to increase their understanding of people and of teaching language.
ОтветитьWhy is it, that this video is intended for with people who work with Disabled people but no one has noticed that the captions are not accessible. Auto captions are crap. It has to be said this way. Let’s normalize not posting content that is not accessible to everyone. To the original poster. Please caption this video.

ОтветитьThis is an amazing video to watch for Everyone!!! It is very eye opening for understanding the difficulties of a Special needs child in your classroom, daycare or at home. Thank you for sharing this video. I would have never known about this video if I wasn't becoming a teacher. This was an assignment in HDFS228 in Early Childhood Education.
ОтветитьSeeing someone express so clearly the way I felt in school with such understanding and compassion has impacted my life in ways I can not explain but I feel everyone should see this
ОтветитьAssigned for my class, what an excellent workshop. Very beneficial, thank you!
Ответитьwhat does the auditory learner need from a teacher?
ОтветитьI showed this to general ed. teachers when I was a special ed. teacher. Woke up a lot of people.
ОтветитьDespite its age, the FAT City workshop remains one of the most powerful and insightful resources for understanding students and individuals with learning disabilities. As both a teacher and a parent of a child with learning differences, I’ve found it to be one of the most eye-opening and educational videos I’ve ever seen. Truly superb!
ОтветитьWow. Just finishing up my first year as a SPED teacher. Excellent video, will be sharing with my paras.
ОтветитьThis actually made me emotional : (
ОтветитьReally well put together!
