I'm moving to Grenoble as part of my master's program this fall! My schedule is quite busy and changes a lot so it has been hard for me to attend in-person classes consistently - your videos have been a huge help to me while trying to self-study :) I love all of your content but would be super interested in learning more about Grenoble and the must-see spots in town!
I discovered you when I was studying in France but due to the virus I had to get back to my homeland... When I was studying there I had small conversations in French with French students, but they're not available at the moment. So my question is, do you have any tips for me for practicing my French speech apart from just talking to somebody?
Bonsoir madame
Also ma'am can you make video on how to improve fluency in speaking french ?
I took French for language requirement at college back in the late 80s because my plan was that once I had my engineering degree I would move to England and join the motor racing industry and I figured French would be a more useful second language than the usual Spanish spoken here in Southern California. That plan didn't work out and I never left California. Now that I'm retired and have more time on my hands I thought that I would pick up where I left off and have been looking for a practical way of learning more French. When I was stationed overseas in the military I found I picked up languages pretty quickly by listening carefully and noting the context. So Bonjour a San Diego.
Hello! Thank you for welcoming us to your channel! I’m here because I used to study French at my university but I changed from French to Spanish halfway through college because I wasn’t making friends as soon as I had hoped. Now, I was offered a job interpreting medical French and I’m afraid all these medical terms are just so new to me! I just have a hard time opening up to speakers of French and I don’t want to be rude in any of the cross-cultural experiences we may have. Thank you!
I am here because I like studying languages and I am really enjoying the story La Belle au bois dormant that you are translating for us. Also, my husband is Canadian and has French Canadian ancestors so that got me interested in French.
Studied French as undergrad 40 years ago, and loved it. I appreciate your addressing a variety of issues in the language and also in French culture (dealing with baguettes and croissants was especially amusing) Thanks for doing this. I think your perspective as a product of several cultures is valuable (Are you a fluent Spanish speaker as well?) In this time of sheltering at home and worrying about vulnerable friends and relatives, a foreign language is very beguiling.
I did a French certificate almost a year ago but even though i did it, I still have ny doubts on spoken french, I want to feel easy and free while speaking it..I want to grasp the flow of the language so that I'm more confident alongside learning interesting vocabulary and phrases❤ Not looking for something very difficult, just looking for something that's easy and motivating and makes me think "oh this sounds cool, I can use this phrase".
Hello, Geraldine! I majored in French a century ago and taught it to elementary age children for a few years. My son just returned from France (Rennes) where he was seven months into an international business degree when this pandemic hit. He doesn't want to lose his French and I'm need to brush up and learn to go deeper than elementary French! his year. Thank you for so much free content! You're amazing!
Bonjour.
I found you on my feed. I studied French decades ago but never used it much. Happy to listen while working from home!
I’m stuck at home for the quarantine so I want to pick French back up
(Forgive me for the poor writing, but I have forgotten a lot of what I learned and so I am wanting to learn more to fill in the gaps.)
J’etudié français à l’université pour trois semestre mais i have lost most of it in the past two years and want to jump back in and relearn all of it
I've been learning French for a while from sources geared for English-language speakers or from print-only sources , mostly more historical, and I just want to get more of a feel for how the language is really used in the modern world! Your channel popped up in my recommendations and I'm so glad, I love your explanations!
I’ve been taking French with our local alliance français but we are being taught a very formal way of speaking so I’m looking for more spoken modern French. I would love to see more role play of normal French conversations in different situations. Also a video on the difference between savoir et connais and how to recognise when to use them please🙏🏻
ОтветитьHey!
I just found your channel recently and I love your content. I feel comfortable speaking classroom french but am still working on my confidence when speaking with francophones in a non-formal setting. Your videos are exactly the kind of help I have been looking for! That being said, would you consider making some videos taught in French instead of in English? This would be super helpful with improving listening at the same time as learning the content of the lesson.
Bonjour Geraldine! Thank you for a great learning channel! I am here because I love learning French and you are a great teacher! I started about a year ago with the Duolingo App, taking a French class through our Community College, and am trying to learn as much as I can. Although I continue doing both online, I definitely have more time to do more with the Quarantine. I am learning a lot by following your daily reading of Sleeping Beauty.
Bonjour. I have until august off of school and wanted to do something productive. I love the language and music of France (especially Edith Piaf) and wish I could speak french but find it hard to find a place to start and to understand what you pronounce and don’t pronounce. I can speak Spanish which normally pronounces every letter but french seems to miss out a lot of letters. So I am looking forward to learning french over the next few months. Merci 🇫🇷
Bienvenue...everyone. Feel welcome.
Good and friendly instruction.
Good luck, and congratulations for helping people understand.
I’ve just discovered your wonderful channel and it is perfect pour moi! I have studied French for many years but have not been successful in finding a conversation group to join, and going through my textbooks is very boring! Listening to your videos gets me back in the habit of hearing French, especially now when we are all so isolated and don’t want to watch the news😩. Merci beaucoup!
I am home with my son (my first baby :) ) I took French from grade 4-12 and used to be able to speak and write so fluently, then over my years of university and with my partner/friends...I started to lose my ability but most importantly, my confidence. I definitely need a refresher on most commonly used grammar and writing, but I find my vocab from not speaking all the time is suffering. Luckily, I listen to French radio, music and read French books to my son. I need to start reading more French myself.
I want to take a test here in Canada to show my proficiency in French to help me out on the job front. Most importantly - I need help with the confidence to speak French! I find so many who do not have French as a first language are so scared to really speak it because we are scared of making mistakes or sounding foolish. Any advice on how to overcome that?
Merci :)
I took french classes back in school but I lost most of it so I want to refresh it. I really love your read-along because I can practice a lot... listening, reading, writing, learning new vocabulary, pronouncing.
I studied French in school, but it's been years since I've spoken it. Donc, j'ai tout oublié! As it happens, I have a lot more free time to just sit at home and am looking to pick it back up again. Glad I stumbled across your channel!
What type of French do you teach? I'm hoping to learn Quebecoise French.
Bonsoir Geraldine .. I did French at school and loved it but was never inspired by teachers ... Now years later I’m wanting to improve again but wanted to understand the reasonings behind the French rather than learning it parrot fashion and then freezing when actually talking to a French person rather than a textbook 🙂
Merci Géraldine! I've been looking for some video material that was offered by a native speaker, highlighted how french is currently spoken (darn those textbooks and their inversions!), but was also equipped to handle some grammatically challenging content — and your channel seemed perfect once I found it! I'm also in the situation where the French Intensive course I had planned for the summer is looking more and more uncertain over time, so I thought that stepping up my self-study could make up for that. Thank you for the warm welcome and the quality content you're generating for us all!
Love from india😊
Bonjour Géraldine!! I am very interested in French for both personal and professional reasons. I work in the cruise ship industry and because I am on an indefinite hiatus for the next couple of months I want to focus my attention on learning French. I have a lovely boyfriend who is French and although we usually only speak English together, I want to be able to communicate more confidently in French. Merci beaucoup!!
Bienvenue ! Please tell me what brought you to Comme une Française and how I can help you. :)
