Having been part of the 40k fandom since 2009...yeah, we're having to gatekeep and tell people off. Leave your politics at the door, we just want to paint miniatures and argue about stupid lore bits. We've gotten a lot of refugees from Star Wars come in and cry woke at stuff that's been part of the lore since the 90's and miss the obvious satire. These same "fans" look at the Imperium of Man as a good thing as if they'd be a Space Marine if they were born in the setting, but in reality the Imperium is the most brutal, dystopian and authoritarian regime in human history and they'd be more likely to be a factory laborer who is worked to death by 40. The only justification for it is because hell actually exists and actively wants your soul. Not to mention that the current Imperium is the polar opposite of what the Emperor wanted it to be. Spoilers: he wiped out all religion on Earth including what was left of Christianity. Nearly everyone sucks in the setting, which makes figures like Ollanius, Vulkan, and Ciaphas Cain that much more special.

I'm a strong advocate for gatekeeping gaming and anime.
Just look at the state of the game industry, it's been miss after miss after miss. Our favorite franchises have been driven under by tourists that will call us gamers "talentless freaks, chuds, problematic, etc."
Anime will be in greater danger if we don't put our foot down.

Im relativly new to warhammer. still catching up with the horus heresy books. but i dont think henry cavill will pull in the same "type" of fan that ariana grande pulls in.
mainly because cavill is a gigantic nerd and a lot of his fans are already familiar with warhammer.

The misunderstanding I think is "gatekeeping" doesn't mean new people can't come in, it just means "Here's what's come before, learn it, do you actually enjoy it, cool you're in". As much as I might wanna share my hobbies, I don't want it changed.

*Pick stuff you like
*Imagine how it reasonably could work
*Read WH novel and bash the author over shit they know nothing about (Like an ICBM torpedo flying slower than a Hellfire missile)

That should have been a sign to FIRE THOSE WRITERS. You wanted female representation. There is a LITERAL SISTERHOOD as female representation as well as billions of Astra Militarum badasses and rogue traders and inquisitors. Hell Imperial Navy has plenty of Lotara-likes.
