I'd say Mine returning is basically guaranteed, since literally no one cares about Richardson, the only reason to bring him back would be if Mine is alive in order to prevent the question of why only one of them survived the fall.

Anyway, that's a really good observation about the spirit photos of chars who later reappeared in some form not having their locations be at the place they actually died.

About Mine, there's still a factor of his tattoo design appearing on LAD8 trailer via in one particular scene with Kiryu, still it maybe just an homage for Mine as skill probably

If you watch the gameplay trailer of Infinite Wealth. You can see Mine's Tattoo appear behind Kiryu as an ability he will use. I think its safe to say he will be returning or at least referenced in some way.

I'd rather they bring back Ryuji and Aizawa. Ryuji especially, since he genuinely feels like a fun character to stick around with and perhaps even play as. Mine was an okay antagonist, but I am not sure how he'd compliment the gang so far.

Honestly… this is one of the many reasons yakuza 3 needs a complete remake. There is so much in the gameplay, story, and graphics that could be cleaned up, and we could truly finally have a definitive game that gives reason for these retcons cause god the amount of deaths in yakuza 3 is sorta stupid

i would not really make sense to bring back dead chars that are dead story wise, it would ruin their character and arcs to the point of making the games were we fought them basically pointless, i think they will however bring them back for the new colosseum fights and we can mostly likely play as them, we also saw the screenshots of ryuji

I think Lau Ka Long died in yakuza 3, there's substory in yakuza kiwami 2 with brother of Lau but im not sure what is his name, maybe it's him in yakuza 7

i think if they bring back mine, they’re not even going to explain how he’s alive because it doesn’t fucking matter honestly. they didn’t offer much in the way of an explanation for Lau being alive as Chau despite the fact that Lau caught a bullet with his cranium.
also there’s the simple fact that it’s not gonna have any consequences on the narrative in the slightest if we find out that he was saved by daidoji spy wire prototypes or some shit. like what difference does that really make? how is that any different from him just falling in the best possible improbable position to survive an absurdly long fall and being scraped off the floor by daidoji, because if anyone’s gonna bring mine back, it’s gonna be daidoji and the how isn’t gonna matter as much as the why.

so this is offtopic from the theory but the title made me think of something: we need a Yakuza game set during Halloween! And before you say "oh but Dead Souls", I checked and that game is set in April! And before you say "but Halloween is different in Japan", true but they still do costumes and have parties and stuff! just less candy. Imagine Kamurocho with all the background NPCs wearing different Halloween style costumes. We got a "technically" Christmas game with 1/Kiwami 1 so give us the Halloween game RGG!

I thought it was odd how ishin and Kenzan characters are referenced with the ghosts but not Ryuiji or Tachibana. Ryuiji could be alive still, even if dead souls isnt canon

The Daidoji Factions methods could make these retcons very interesting.
Could be that the Daidoji faction has been observing all the conflicts throughout all the games, and save the antagonists at the last minute covertly, and recruit them under their control. Its still an asspull and devalues the deaths and conflicts of the past games, but at least it makes more sense.
So many characters had no reason dying. Still salty over Ryuji.....

In the end of Gaiden when hanawa gives Kiryu the passport with his Y5 name he said he also was someone else in the time before he joined the daidoji. I mean cosmetic surgery is a thing and changing the voice of a person isn't out of the possibility either so maybe Hanawa is Mine.
Of course the Richardson looking guy in infinite wealth could also be Richardsons twin, but if it's Richardson than Mine had to survive too.
Just a theory though.

So far, most resurrected character have only returned to the degree of a "cameo" role.
The problems will only start if they begin affecting the plots in any major capacity.

I'm so conflicted about a Mine resurrection lol. Because on one hand, don't cheapen death, let these sacrifices mean something etc etc.

on the other hand, god damn it, if all these other characters are coming back then give me Mine! I want Mine!

There is an event going on in Japan called Like a Dragon: The Men Who Perished exhibit, which is basically a funeral service in real life for all the dead Yakuza characters. To me, this sounds like the final word on who is alive and who is dead. Anyone who doesn't show up in the event list must still be alive. Sadly, we do not have the complete list of characters who are a part of this exhibit, but what we do have is a part of the list sent out to the press, as well as a collage of almost all of the dead. Some of the most important characters in the series are on this list. Sadly, Mine is one of them. Ryuji, however, is not. Not on the list, not on the collage. The same goes for Masumi Arakawa, interestingly enough. This collage is also being sold as merch. Surely, you'd want to put all the important characters on it, right? So why aren't those two on it? Could it be because they're actually... still alive?

The thing with Chau i've been seeing online is the password given to you translates to something like "Chau not lau" and it might not mean much but i think its supposed to seperate them. While they are very similar it might just be a case of them being related but not the same person.

There’s also a few other characters who might be able to come back yet didnt get photos. Kuze (he isn’t even confirmed dead, he might just be really old, sane with shibusawa)

Homare Nishitani I, he had enough strength to kill a guy even full of like 7 bullets, if he can thug that shit out he could’ve maybe lived (but his actor has long since passed.

Ryuji. It’s literally all but confirmed that ryuji somehow survived. From RGG online, dead souls and some pointers in Gaiden suggesting this. Two of these are non canon but it’s weird that they brought back ryuji twice.

i love how there are only like two or three actually important deaths in yakuza 4, yet they picked the random thug arai kills to be a ghost
