Are you getting a lot of kick back in the city areas? I do not think there is a difference in rural areas… Tesla drivers can be viewed negatively because they tend to understand the riskier manouvers in my area, unfortunately… All those under-utilised safety features.

100% my experience as well. Never going back to petrol/diesel.

We're arriving home with 350-ish km range left each day. It charges back to full in 2 hours. I could schedule this for after midnight and it would cost less than $2 to refill. However most days I leave it until the weekend and charge off solar. Costs about $4 per week in lost solar revenue to refill. Best case $4 per week. Worst case $10 per week. Another $20 at the supercharger if we drive interstate on the weekend. It is so damn cheap.

But leaving the cost aside, it's just the convenience of never worrying about services or filters or fluids or oils. The smooth ride, the lightning fast acceleration, and AI does half the driving for you. Especially on the interstate trips I just turn on autopilot and relax. Having driven petrol and diesel cars for 35 years now (goddamn) there is nothing as good as electric. Never going back.

Great story. I cannot understand how this technology has not continued to expand rapidly. You are spot on that if the sceptics drove one they would be blown away. We hired a Model Y for 3 weeks in Queensland on our annual family holiday last year in December. Even the ability to turn on the air conditioning via your phone app was incredible! Charging at home was brilliant. We never went near a Supercharger. We’ll be buying the Juniper this year. Can’t wait. Keep up your brilliant videos, Ryan 👌

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something i can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry.

great to see a good news story. Shame they left a few bits out about charging times and so on. But hey, live and learn about what to say next time, you can do 'the typical time would be 4 to 6 hours, no one is likely to ever show up at home with 0%'. Not sure they can edit it out then. But fantastic to see a news / ACA reporter do such a great job, this is awesome!!! Well done.

If I wasn't interested in a new driving experience this ACA piece wouldn't convince me of the benefits. Whilst it's nice they're not outright shaming the industry they're not really doing it any favours here.

Had a Model Y for 2.5 years, 55k kms. Very happy with it, but if I was going to buy a new car I’m not sure I’d buy another Tesla given Elon Musk. I’m amazed that the Tesla Charwoman hasn’t done anything to try to mitigate the damage he is doing to the Tesla brand.

That's great news and keep up the good work Ryan. What are you thoughts on the current perspective of owning a Tesla? I own a model 3 and unfortunately because of what's happening elsewhere there's more negativities around Tesla's and I can understand why but I still like my car and enjoy driving it and the team behind it works hard.

First kudos for making it into the mainstream media to spread the "message". The fact that you (rightfully) assumed that they (the media) will put a negative spin on the story is a bit disturbing in itself. One would say that they should report on the story of your experience with EVs without interpretation (narrative what the public should think about), but the media could not help itself but try to let us know how we should feel about the information they are presenting.

their framing seems overall positive but they had a few clear missteps where they made it look worse by editing out the full context of your answers.
they get a B- overall, mostly truthful, but either lazy edit or intentionally misleading.

Tip. You cant mention 16amps, 13KW, etc.. they will just cut it out. They kept it positive but used your cilps in a way that didnt help change peoples mind. Ie 12 hours to charge at home from zero. If you get this chance gain, speak less and give key details in a one liner generic but informative manner.

We just suffered from a three-day blackout during the cyclone in Queensland. My neighbours now fully understand that the benefits of Solar battery packs and V2L are far more than money-saving. Owning an EV and solar system means a new lifestyle. If they can help you reduce the bill, that would be great. But even if they are not cheap, the safeguard and assurance during Australia's frequent natural disasters can perfectly justify the upfront cost of these new things.

I like what Tesla has done with the EV industry, but with Musk as their current CEO and the piss poor quality of US politics, I can''t bring myself to get a Tesla. There's too much risk with insurance and vandalism in the US, I don't think I'd come out even. I don't want to be concerned about my car every day, it's not worth the small savings in gas.

Ehhh, if only there were some good evs to get excited about. Other than Hyundai's Ioniq 5N, theres literally nothing. Tesla is literally a dumpster fire on wheels. They will probably fade into irrelevance, replaced by the likes of BYD.
We need a commited Japanese, German or Korean maker to step it up and make something thats quality built, fun and relatively affordable. Like an MX5 or Civic TypeR of the EV world :)
