You can tell Asmon is in his element when discussing the systemic issues that plague mmos. The comparison between MMOs and Isekai (or even more generic fantasy anime) is also spot on. Escapism is the name of the game here. Players want to escape into a world where the metrics for success are different than they are in reality. It really is that simple. If you're playing a dps for example, and you take countless hours to min/max your damage output, the people you are going to be playing with will definitely notice and that feels good. In this example, the metric dictating how well other people regard you isn't your real-world occupation, skin color, age, or money. It's how well you're playing the role you've decided on playing for yourself. Again, escapism is the name of the game for MMOs. If a developer wants to make a cash grab game, just make another hero shooter and sell skins. At least in that market you have a chance to succeed. In MMOs however that is simply not the case.

ОтветитьAs long as the guy playing 10 hours per day can get same thing with the guy paying hundreds of euros per month, there is no problem, u keep then both the kid with much time and no money, but also the older guy with less time and more money. It only fails if it is made to exclude one of these two. Also I think a game with a moderate donation like monthly payment for premium, subscription etc and cosmetics are great way with less to no impact on players competing against each other. I personally played games without caring at all about how one or the other looked like Further more, many have the option to deactivate these cosmetic 'skins' so if u want u see the player as his items really look. But again, if developer or publisher wishes the game without significant donation impact, then the guy without much time will lose since he can not pay for the time advantage the younger one has, so the game has to have some limits like limited farm time or session(instance) time where after x time you get almost no drops or something, so the guy with much time can not progress too much, or the guy with less time will simply quit.

This sound too much like a fever dream, they might bit too much, doubt they can chew it.
Pretty much a mix of vanilla GW2 design and dark souls.
I hope it will work out, if it will, this will be game of the century.

ОтветитьI for one am sick of every one getting the terms wrong. Dimensions are the rules that govern the existence of universes, hence 3D space or even 2D space. Parallel worlds are worlds next to another of which are governed by dimensional rules.

Personally my biggest issue with games these days will be about camera distance. Sadly I suffer from simulation sickness and when player view is either first person or close to the character in third person it's non playable. I wish game devs would at least allow for a much further away view distance than what games are currently allowing. World of Warcraft was great when it came to this issue. But who wants to play WoW in this day and age...

ОтветитьForcing players to, just like throne & liberty does, make use of two different weapons, essentially two different playstyles, just is never a good idea. Using one weapon(one playstyle) needs to be viable.

ОтветитьIf its more focus on pve its ok but pve must be like lost ark or bdo with amazing effects good looking skills, mass aoe dmg, fun combat, alot of skills and more... now its looking like pve will be intresting only for couple of weeks so if its focus on pve and pve is boring like TL game will be dead faster then throne and liberty

This is what you use as a tank, then as DPS, and if your not doing X, then your a crap healer.Even if we all "can tank", it is Bill that will be doing the tanking. Jill will do the healing, and Bob is DPS. I just want my MMO to not feel like a second job, be fun, and let me and my friends mess some crap up and work to overcome the challange.

All of this fps shit, tab targeting, simulated "live-action" nonsense is not what an mmorpg should be. Mmorpgs are slow, grindy, horizontal progressions that don't have an "end-game" in focus, but rather goals to fulfil. Any attempts in trying to turn slow, gradual, incremental, and layered complexity into a 3d fast paced action cringefest has ALWAYS failed SPECTACULARLY even in games that were supposed to be PRECISELY that...
Say what you will about 2d top-down mmos, but that's where this genre thrives, and any attempt of turning those games into fotm bullshit shooter clones will only result in more failed wow-clones and inevitably will become the exact same shit wow itself became after it diverged from its origins which was... you guessed it... warcraft 3! A primarily top-down strategy game with heavy mmo-based elements and story. Once wow itself completely killed every and all semblance it had with warcraft 3 it became the exact same thing every single other "wow-clone" since the dawn of time sworn they wouldn't become...
Do you wanna know who did "3d wow-clone" right without even trying? fortnite. Being a cartoon "shooter with orcs" is EXACTLY what modern wow wish so desperately it could become, but since it's tied down to the whole "mmo" genre that they despise, it has to begrudgingly box itself within the confinements of a genre it doesn't fit, while it keeps forcing nonsense that is far more adapted to take advantage of the fast-paced, everchanging, heavily monetized model of f2p shooters.
remember when you had to CC mobs and have plan to actually complete dungeons etc.. back in vanilla wow/crusade.. pepperidge farms remembers.. we need that again.
ОтветитьBrother. You went from talking about WOW to saying BDOs combat is antiquated. WOW combat has got to be some of the most brain dead combat ever and is basically the definition of antiquated. Not trying to glaze BDO but it’s far more sophisticated by comparison.
If we’re talking combat in general I think WuWa is among the top in terms of its range. It’s not super complex but it can be and you’re rewarded as well. You WANT to parry in WuWa but you necessarily HAVE to.

Ответить31.56 question on that topic, for my indie game I wanna make it so each weapon has it's own "core skill" but players can link up to three universal skills with that weapon, for a total of four. In your opinion do you think that would solve that issue of swap builds easily while also still maintaining that vibe of making your own playstyle? Or would that be something that doesn't vibe with you?
