I don't understand why people are shocked by the advancement of AI or machine learning. It seems many live in a state of perpetual denial about AI. Despite all the previous evidence, they continue to believe that AI will somehow decline or stagnate. I think this stems from the tendency to compare AI to individual human beings, as if it's meant to mimic a single person's learning and intellect. But AI is not like an individual — it's more like an institution composed of many intelligent people. Yes, individuals join and leave such institutions for various reasons, and they each progress or regress in different ways. But as a whole, the institution — and its outcomes — continues to grow. The same applies to AI.
