UAZ-3151 is a cargo and passenger vehicle of increased cross-country capability, the production of which began in 1985 at the Ulyanovsk automobile plant. The predecessor of this model is the UAZ-469, intended for use in the Soviet Army and rolled off the Assembly line in 1972.


Compared with the UAZ-469 new model, 3151 got a slightly modernized body (large front and rear lights and side "turn signals", separate lights for license plate and reverse), a new brake system, suspension clutch pedals and brakes (previously were floor-mounted), a new clutch; the foot-operated window washer was replaced with an electric one, and a more powerful heater became available. The model for civil use received the index 31512 and was produced from 1985 to 2003, after which its place in the UAZ model range was taken by hunter.


The UAZ-3151 is a four-door open SUV with a canvas awning, a hard roof was initially offered as an additional option. The car was produced in several modifications. UAZ-3151-01 — military version with shielded electrical equipment, wheel reducers and increased clearance. UAZ-31512-01 — civil modification, in fact, a simplified version with bridges from the "loaf" UAZ-452. UAZ-3152-01 — medical car. In 1993, the production of a new modification of the UAZ-31514 with increased consumer qualities was launched — it was distinguished by the regular presence of a metal roof, adjustable seats (5 comfortable and 2 folding), armrests and new door locks. In 1994, the car received a one-piece (instead of the previously used two "halves") windscreen. 1997 was marked by the transition to the "new model" wiper system — with the lower position of the wipers. In the same year, production of the UAZ-3153 was launched — it is a passenger "stretch Suite" with an elongated to 2760 mm base, 9-seat interior with soft upholstery. Its modification "bars" was distinguished by an extended track, gear axles, plastic interior upholstery, a single-leaf swing door at the rear. All these developments eventually led to the creation of a more comfortable and modern UAZ hunter model in 2003.
