I like j37 on the master chain however you have to be careful about noise being introduced and
Amplified on the mix chain. Need to try this out sometime.
Just recently discovered the NLS, and I'd be SUPER interested to see what you find working with them together.
ОтветитьPress play please
Ответитьy a w n. waves have given up being innovative.
ОтветитьExcept for the TG12411 and some extra features this plugin is not that new. In 2005 Abbey Road them selves released the pluginsTG12413, TG12414 and TG12412. The package costed approx $ 390,- back then. Unfortunately they discontinued the products in 2013 for god knows which reason. Of cause I am so happy to see what Waves did to this concept and I'm definitely gonna purcahse them as I purchased the old models. :) :)
ОтветитьThat was a very comprehensive tutorial thanks is there anyway to attenuate the meters to give a lower meter reading , to address the meters constantly being in the red thanks again
ОтветитьWaves is releasing the same plugins with new GUIs.
ОтветитьJust got this last night and it's on a drum bus already. Quick and easy to dial in for major muppets like me.
ОтветитьGreat video!!!!
ОтветитьGreat vid! And I finally understand mid side processing now! Cheers!
Ответитьthe thumbnail got me triggered... nice plugin tho
Ответитьthanks !
ОтветитьThat recurring violin'ish tone thing is slightly too loud in the mix, IMO.
But thanks for a good walk-through, Unders. Best I've come across.
Melodyne / Autotune that vocal a little bit man for a more professional sounding track
Ответитьdid not like it!! hyped ....
Ответитьmy god, stop playing loops, and your mix sound better without this plugin
ОтветитьThanks for showing me what this can do! I have downloaded the demo. But the UI doesn't work properly (you can't adjust the modules...all are greyed out except the output module) and it doesn't come with the meter section. Probably not the best way to present a Demo of a new product that you want people to actually buy. Still...I see the usefulness and will keep an eye out for a $29 sale.
ОтветитьGreat video man!
ОтветитьGreat video, great content.
ОтветитьJust installed the demo for testing. Very well presented intro to this plug, thank you. Had been writing it off as something I didn't need (which is probably true) but this video has made me reconsider and given that Waves very generously offer trials for their products, why not.
ОтветитьGreat track
Ответитьvery informative great demo well done
ОтветитьI appreciated the deeper dive into the functionality. I need to do some mastering on some archive mixes, never released and was looking at this bit of kit.
I did have to stop watching during the A/B section because I found the loop really irritating. The song was okay for a few seconds but by 2 mins more I could no longer listen.
Well, The sound of the mix after going though the TG is way worse imo, i might use it on some channels but not on the final mix this is not the right tool for mastering, way to dirty ( again imo ) way to harsh
ОтветитьGreat review and an awesome plug in. I've been lucky to have recorded a few times at Abbey Road, and had some tracks master there. An old friend is one of the heads of audio and he;'s featured in one of the Waves A.R videos :)
But I know from when he's worked on the Native instruments stuff, how much effort they go into recreating the sound. Awesome stuff !!
I expect that this plugin has real world value in the mastering process. I appreciate your showcasing of the various features. I'm thinking it could be fun to use on individual channels, and I don't feel educated enough in mastering to be able to apply this plugin to its full capacity on the master bus. I have the sense that it demands a restrained, deliberate, and educated engineer. It seems designed for a particular workflow or ideology. I'd like to learn more about that.
ОтветитьAbout the Tape EQ. Here is the explanation from the manual:
Tape Equalizer
Applies a filter to flatten out the frequency spectrum.
Originally, in the hardware domain, this was done when playing back the track from NAB or IEC tape machines at either 7.5 or 15 ips, in order to provide the equalization required for playing NAB-equalized tape on an IEC machine and vice versa.
In your digital mixes, you will not need to use this control for that historic purpose. We have decided to keep this control, however, due to its great sonic character, and you may find that it gives your tracks interesting sonic characteristics.
Options:
NAB-to-IEC: 7.5 ips and 15 ips IEC-to-NAB: 15 ips and 7.5 ips Default: Flat
Very nice... clear and concise.
ОтветитьYou're welcome
ОтветитьCan you recommend what reading the meter should be reading ? I seem to keep going in the read and have no idea what industry standard master levels should read. Cheers great tutorial vid.
Craig
Muchas gracias!
ОтветитьHaving worked extensively with this plugin for some months now, I've found out that an absolutely crucial thing, is to feed it a 0 VU signal, aka -18 db.
Else the compressor will "distort" and sound overfed, because... well... it is!
For this compressor to pump in the most beautiful, musical way: ensure much lower gain.
I wonder if the tape eq would work well in conjunction with the j37 tape machine plugin for mastering
ОтветитьThat was a very useful video, man! Thanks a lot, now I understand. Thank you for all the pro work and for sharing your knowledge.
ОтветитьI was recently handed a wav file derived from a quarter inch analog tape. It sounded terrible and I realised that the original tape track had been recorded using the NAB eq curve, but dubbed to digital using the IEC playback curve, which of course produced an eq mismatch. I was able to sort out the sound by using the Tape EQ control on the TG mastering software.
ОтветитьGreetings, tape should add some analog flavour to the signal. Learned about it from Lu Diaz. I like your video by the way, good refresher and honest teaching for newer producers.
ОтветитьHI there.I just purchased this plugins and it does not show the big ON and OFF start button at the very top left corner of the plugin you are using and this also happened with another plugin I bought from WAVES.
The other one is Tune Real Time so can you please help me out about how to get the big button on display please.
What a fantastic Review! Super well done 👍
ОтветитьI love the tune idea, is it released? Regarding the plugin, tape mode drastically affects the high frequencies. My choice here would be the 7.5ips followed by a slight boost at the very top end (15k ish) for some air. Nevertheless, it's a great track :)
ОтветитьIs this a must have plugin
ОтветитьIs it Better than The j37?
ОтветитьSo, for someone like me who doesn't have any mastering experience, would this be a good tool to start creating masters?
ОтветитьCome on man... It's not the same as mastering with a TG desk. Illusions, all that it is
ОтветитьLegend mate
ОтветитьShall I get the Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain or the SSL G-Master Buss Compressor solely for Mastering. Can anyone help please?
ОтветитьFormative Unders.
ОтветитьBy far the best video on this plug in I have found. Was on the fence but I will now purchase it. Thank you.
ОтветитьThis is one of my favorite plugins. Warms my heart to see it getting a lot of love and not ridiculed as a gimmick. Say what you will about Waves marketing strategy, but this plug is fantastic, used in subtle amounts, or even not so subtle. I always slide the Filter section over to precede the Tone. I love the different Limiter options. The spreader sounds lovely at the tiniest settings.
Ответитьthis sounds amazing
