The Art of the Bodge: How I Made The Emoji Keyboard

You can bodge on an iOS device and it’s the best and worst experience an amateur developer can experience. Because I didn’t have access to a Mac and couldn’t set up the jailbreak development environment properly, I had to make a program (?) that bodged together 6 programs to work: Activator, Shortcuts, Activate Command, bash, Quickshoot Pro and imagemagick. The most stupid part is that once I learned how to code in Swift and Objective-C, the “improved” version required 7 programs to work: Swift, Theos, iMessage, bash, Activator, Activate Command and SQLite. It consisted of TWO polling scripts that shuffles files around to break the sandbox and base-64 encoding images to avoid sending attachments. Bodging is a horrible experience a but it can give us a guilty pleasure that we seem genius. 😂

I just used GPT to recreate this lua macros bodge so I can read the txt file with authotkey and turn a second keyboard into a macro hotkey switch. I got one of those palm-sized wireless keyboards. Thank you, Tom.

I've customized my keyboard inputs with bodge after bodge over the years after learning about autohotkey from this video. Just yesterday, I actually rewatched it just for old time's sake. Well, today one of my shortcuts stopped working and had to be bodged again - must have been fate!

'Jugaad' is the hindi word for bodging..

I think the concept 'alt' numeric keypad went back to DEC VT100 ESC sequences. It's been over 40 years since I last used a DEC terminal. So, it's a little hard to remember.

I grew up using 'kludge' for bodge. If the kludge reached epic proportions it was dubbed a Rube Goldberg invention.
