nah this only gives me error msg this something is too old to run on this version of macos.

I spent hours trying to work out how to get to the installer. Your video telling me to look for it in applications was the answer. 
I can now stop swearing and drinking wine trying to update the OS X.

that doesn't work when downgrading only when upgrading so it's pretty much useless. when downgrading it means your system is higher than the install dmg hence it will never get that far as to create an app file in applications. clicking the dmg you only get an error message saying can't be opened with this version of Mac OS beast dmg file is OLDER than the system os currently using. for example, I'm on Mojave trying to open that El Capitan dmg but it doesn't allow it as the dmg NOT my system or hardware is too old. does this make sense? yet another way for apple to prevent people downgrading so that they're forced to buy new machines. awful stuff...
