Hello and Welcome !

This video is a direct follow-up to my video, Iron Mace, this is the way ( https://youtu.be/tsigbjXZSaw ). A quarterly follow-up on my point of view on development and operations of Dark and Darker early access, from an outside perspective.

My perspective on the multiclassing experiment : https://youtu.be/KzF2dGOvXm8

There are still a ton of performance issues in this game, stuttering, lagging, freezing, rubber banding, all still there, dont know what ur talking about. Also this is not the best product, its just the first, PUBG was the "best" battle royale when it came out because it was the first, now Fortnite stands where it did, same will happen to Dark and Darker, sorry.

I consider your criticism to be very well founded and I too consider they could do a better job, but I also praise them from the experience of Dark and Darker because I love this game.

Unfortunately well articulated videos don't seem to make an impact to the dev team. Almost all their changes have been from the loud minority of complainers on the discord, reddit, or streamers.

It shouldn't be SDF's role to handle the community. If anything Terrance has a better skill set for this, the last devstream demonstrates this well. When I look at SDF's actions I see an unchained engineer(I'm jealous), which has downsides. That being said, I enjoyed this video - subbed and liked.

Good video as always. My buddies and I were talking about how we really missed playing ruins. Tbh ruins should never have been connected to crypts. The gameplay is vastly different between the two maps and people really didn't like having to go through ruins to fight bosses. Myself and my friends are generally just tired of crypts and never really warmed up to it compared to other less cramped maps. We'd take anything but crypts at this point.

We don't care about bossing, we just want to fight players in a setting where we aren't constantly battling the circle and trying to funnel ourselves through narrow hallways stuffed with traps.

I had a long comment on your multiclass video that basically gave reasoning about why multiclassing is a waste of time. All I would like to say at this point is if the devs released druid instead of multiclassing the game would've been better off. Currently we just received our third or fourth update to the multiclass system including the hotfix that it was added in. Mainly what that hoxfix provided was balance changes to an inherently flawed system. This is a perfect example of Ironmace wasting time and resources. Adding Druid wouldn't have had be as divisive as adding multiclass and I can guarantee that more players would have a more positive outlook on the future of dark and dark. The individuals who are enjoying multiclassing because the game was getting boring would've had the content they were craving with a new class being added. I can go on and on about this but so far your video is doing a perfect job explaining everything clearly. Keep doing these I enjoy them a ton.

i'm one of those who very much enjoyed multi-classing but still see it as a huge mistake. i enjoy it cause it created some much needed depth into the game, now there are many different interesting builds instead of just 1 meta build per class. However, having to level 4-5 different characters for like 200 hours for them to randomly just decrease the exp needed, or out of nowhere decide that "no, you can't use ambush and windlass" for example just sucks. lets be honest here, multi-classing is lazy. they artificially increase the depth of the game without adding anything new. when they instead could have done subclasses. imagine being a warlock with a necromancer spec. or a rogue with acrobatics or whatever. i feel like one big reason they succeeded early was because a lot of us saw this well of untapped potential. why aren't they doing anything with it? just tweaking numbers like max movespeed inside some .ini file somewhere and cashing out their paycheck.

I agree with everything you've said in this video.

My hope is that IM figures this out but for the time being I have stopped playing (being Group B in that multiclassing argument). I find it distasteful of IM that they push the test server out and have refused to use it on a feature for more than a week, likely because they weren't receiving enough data. However, this is their own fault, if they gave players endless resources to experiment with it would incentivize them to go and get on the test server, however I likely think that they are afraid that if they give the player too much freedom on the test server that they will kill of the main game by proxy simply because not everyone can sit and grind for 8 hours a day to mess with the new features. Therefore they create a paradox of inability to use the test server.

IM seems to see their customers right now as data points and not a community, which with such a small community can mean life or death. If we look back to about a year ago we see IM publicly releasing data and statistics on the game, which they have stopped doing likely because these data points look absolutely horrid right now, in an attempt to cover their own ass they have villianized the playerbase that remembers when they were open and honest about their data instead of hiding it, this is not to mention the inherent lack of communication with the dwindling playerbase. I have worked on multiple small scale gaming projects and can say that if your communication with the community doesn't go up, especially when it gets smaller you are doomed to fail due to players simply feeling like they aren't heard, in an even worse case you are hearing them but not responding, again villianizing what is supposed to be a community and turning them into data.

Rant over, as always algorithm points <3, and i hope to a see a video from you soon highlighting how great the game has become, i really want to play again.

The merchants and quest system needs an overhaul imo. Needing to do very simple unfun grindy quests on each character to get basically nothing in return. Ive never felt happy or accomplished from any quest. I only feel relieved to finally be done with it.

They are testing features that should not even be considered till after early access ends. Focus on releasing your classes, and your maps. Multiclassing has potential but it is such a roadblock for actual core game functionality. Using paid players to beta test your features when you have a test server as well is insane for an early access game. If you do not have a team large enough to work on the core aspects of your game why are you wasting time "collecting data" on a system that should not exist until you know what your completed game is going to be? undermining the class identity of your game before there is even a chance for it to exist is also crazy.

I do have to say i disagree with your perspective on class balance. While D&D doesnt necessarily need to have the same perspective as competitve games (league, dota etc) on balance, there does need to be a dedicated team that analyses new and existing class and item interactions through the lense of how they effect the current meta, its a fairly cheap cost:benefit imo.

Personally I haven't had as much fun playing dnd in a long time as I am currently. The multiclass system is immaculate, and getting better every day. There's so broken issues but as a whole the game is so much fun and I'm proud of them for the current state of the game

Some really good points especially wrt the business side of things but I would say that aside from the content drought which doesn't really bother me that much they have been absolutely schizophrenic where the game balance and systems are concerned. Everyone wants new content but most people play this game because of the PVP aspect and their inability to show any clear direction or even understanding when balancing that side of the game has been the thing that has made me lose the most faith in the dev team. Adding all attributes and then removing them multiple times, nerfing wizard and bard because of barbarian, refusing to nerf some classes with glaring issues, making changes to classes that DO need them but changing the wrong thing. I'm sure people can come up with many other examples but it all gives the impression that the devs don't really have a handle on their own game which kills the confidence in the player base. Like you said it would be a different story if they communicated their reasoning behind the decisions but we are left to scratch our heads. Maddening

Brilliant video as always. A few points to add on to yours:

The test server needs to be utilized WAY more. I can understand the concern of splitting the playerbase, so some sort of incentive in the form of blue/red shards or a cosmetic would be perfect.

Multiclass is going to slowly kill this game. Class identity is gone, and there are a lot of overpowered builds, some good ones, and many bad ones. Whats the point in even having classes at this point?

They need a PR overhaul, they need to hire a community outreach person, and they need to be hosting weekly or biweekly Q&A or recommendation panels of some sort.

They need to get their ears out of the streamer only discord for a bit, nothing against the streamers as I watch many of them, but the perspective of an average player who will keep this game alive is vastly different than those who play 10, 12, 16 hours a day every day on stream. Streamers are valuable and we have a great community of them but their ideas I believe are not always good for the game. I will not name anyone as I respect and like the people I am talking about but there are streamers who want multiclass to stay and mostly in the current form its in and thats just not gonna work for the life of the game.

As you said, we need content badly. The goal post for druid has consistently moved every month and its getting to be the new weekly joke. I respect the team but disappointing your playerbase this consistently is just bad for you and for them. More maps, more classes, more interactive features like the custom inn room they mentioned to give players goals to attain.

It seems to me they need to grow more and thus they need a new cash flow, which is why I'm so confused why they haven't really touched the cosmetic shop when I know many players, like myself, would definitely buy some skins or something we like.

I think they don't know where they want to go or what they want to do, which is understandable with a young team and company, but the fact that they refused free help from a professional is baffling to me. The clock is ticking, and a competitor will come soon that actually can stand up to them. Dungeonborne and Greed is Good were bad knockoffs but something will come and dethrone Dark and Darker if they don't get it in gear.

They struck gold, and I love the game, I don't want to see it go away, or fall into greedy hands.

A poll system like Old School Runescape with their Q&As on weekly updates are a great example to look at. Or Bungie with their weekly Destiny 2 blog that has Q&A, known bugs, fun reveals, and just community interaction.
