Hi Jon, I am a big fan of you. Can you please measure the dimension of the Altoids and the silver mini box. In Germany you cannot buy Altoids. Thank you for all the wonderful videos and greetings from 🇩🇪, Sven

Reducing friction in every day life is a great goal. Amazing how you were able to find the narrowest and slimmest things, I can see it’s all high quality. Magnet fishing is a great idea. Yeah extra meds are important, Benadryl can save a life which it did for a kid who showed up at our baseball field who had a nut reaction to cashews.

Kit contains a Leatherman Micra. Way to tell me you never actually use tools for anything other than infomercials 😂

Quick tip for storing the duct tape. Find some wax paper - the sort of stuff you'd get on a roll of white adhesive labels for envelopes or a kid's sticker sheet. The duct tape peels off really easy.

Just found all this EDC stuff a few weeks ago and made a similar tin just before a small driving holiday with the kids. Already saved the day by repairing a kite on the beach with the gorilla tape. Great stuff.

The most clever EDC collection I can imagine. The only thing I would do, is to put these very useful items in a kind of small pouch. I would not be happy with a tin can over the time.

Impressively well thought out kit, certainly something to throw in the glove box of your car if you add a couple of fuses.

The ferro rod + lighter are redundant - pick one.

The charging cable is just wasted space - pack it with your charger, neither is any use without the other. Also you aren't taking that kit onto a plane these days.

mini pen? Why not one of those tiny pencils that come in the spine of kids' diaries? Smaller and works on more surfaces.

Self amalgamating tape basically doesn't work when wet - so you can't stop an active leak. It is also very flexible, so it can't handle any meaningful pressure in the case of a leak. There are better leak stopping tapes and since the volume of them is negligible I am sure you could fit a few inches of both.

I'm calling you out on this decent rubber band. The Ranger bands are significantly better, last longer, are more durable, and catch fire well if needed. Edit; In case there was a misinterpretation, this is a great kit and a really good channel.

Finally! An urban EDC similar to mine... No this "oh you have to include a lot of firestarting options, fishing gear etc..." bs! I just don't include a knife in mine (two reasons. First I usually have my SAK with me or two so I have abundance of sharp blades, Second is I don't want to build two separate ones. One for general use and second for situations where I cannot carry a blade - like a flight or visit to local courthouse). But overall looks like mine. Don't have allergy tablets, but that's because I am not alergic, so... Also, since I carry a SAK with me, I have small tool with pliers not a scissors.

maybe switch to reusable zipties? might be a little bit bulkier but the pros are self explained.

Years ago in the TA I used an old Elastoplast tin in the breast pocket of my combat jacket, with black nasty along the back edge as the hinges wore out. Thinner than an Altoids tin but larger in plan. The things not shown here were antiseptic wipes for cuts, book of matches as thinner than lighter, pencil from IKEA, pen from Argos/betting shop. Secured with elastic bands.

Amazing how much you can fit in a tiny can! I bought a kit from a store once, and I make my own that are a bit bigger from rectangular plastic boxes of chewing gum.

Awesome kit - Thought about doing this, but seeing as I don't have most of this stuff just laying around the house, I started putting together an Amazon cart with all these items... umm.... wow... that's one expensive kit... never mind. Great idea, though.

I use an Altoids/ Swiss herbal sweets tin to store my remote electronic car key fob and two house keys, a perfect Faraday cage. I tested it by entering the car as normal, putting the keys in the tin and the car immediately gave a 'no key' warning. Keep in a pocket or on a hall stand.

I feel like the lighter is often overused. I don't think the average person really needs to carry an emergency lighter with them to start a fire. I get it if you're someone who enjoys exploring the outdoors, but the vast majority of us regardless of which country you live in are either home bodies, or we enjoy the outdoors on trails. I can't imagine I would ever need to keep a lighter on me for survival purposes. I would guess that most people are in the same boat as I am. I don't say this to be argumentative in any way. I just think that most people that carry an EDC kit of some kind most likely have a lighter in that kit, but have probably never used it. It's an amazing tool. I just don't think 95% of the population needs to have one with them at all times.

Thanks Jon for such great videos. I'm almost done replicating your Altoid EDC kit. However, could you please identify which diameter of Dyneema thread you used? I'm guessing 0.5mm or 0.8mm? BTW, thanks for helping me (I think) spend money on gadgets and SAKs . Regards, Scott

Hi Jon - great video as always. Thanks for turning me on to Lever Gear. They charging cable is on the way. In addition, they have a great little 1 oz pry bar multitool with craft blade called the Edge XT. Paired with a SwissCard in the wallet for scissors, nail file, toothpick etc, this might replace my SAK. You can take the blade out for travel. It's a lot more economical than many similar multitools (e.g., Rexford RUT).
