This work never fails to astound me - its freedom, energy, range, depth, virtuosity, beauty, grandeur, intimacy, richness, light, shade, variety, complexity and simplicity demonstrate a musical genius to set beside his great contemporary, Shakespeare. This version does it justice - as do several others.

This, only part of the oratorio is John Elliot Gardner's version with the Monteverdi choir. I haven't heard one come close..The placement of the choir the feel is just incredible and probably how it would have been sung then..I have the full vinyl and cd version and it's my treasure :-)

It is so lustful,  especially the Song of Solomon stuff.

Excellent, truly fab. Not ruined by the sort of post-baroque singing style we often get in the UK. We get period bands, very authentic, then some full, constant, wide vibrato soprano thinking it's Strauss or something. Handel is the primary victim of this violation.
