it’s disheartening that we are paying the prices we do to experience these shows only to discover these shows are mimed.

When I was a high school choirboy, there was this one song that my choir just couldn't learn. 4-part men's harmony was too much for our 15 year old boy brains. So the choir director told us to bring sunglasses on the day of the concert. When it came to that song, right before the song started, we all put on our sunglasses simultaneously. Then he played the track with the vocals on the boombox backstage. The crowd loved it.

This is why I love metal and punk bands. Can't get away with this crap.

I'm not surprised at all. I just watched her performance with Sabrina and Taylor was 5 steps away while carrying her guitar and she was already out of breath.

I saw Madonna in 1995 and she had two backup singers that danced with her, they both sounded exactly like her. So basically we had three people singing the same line, they weren't harmonizing, that way Madonna was always covered. Maybe it's still cheating, but it felt more authentic.

And yet to prepare Tay ran on a treadmill for 6 months singing her songs, plus diet fitness weights. Girly loves a challenge. The first concerts her voice was tired by the surprise songs. She said her other tours she turned up like a frat boy. I love Kate Bush but I don't think she prepared like an athlete for her dance routines either.

I apologize for the dumb question, I assume Phil verifies this is the only vocal track on the song and that this isn't the guide track? I'm not defending singing to a backing track live, I'm just wondering if there isn't also an imperfect live vocal that they just bury in the mix and that isn't being considered here. Likely a non issue I'd imagine.

I've been wondering how she can put on a three-hour show with dancing and costume changes, singing 40+ songs. I guess I have part of the answer. She still has to physically perform. On a side note, I just found an Argent live album on Amazon from the early 1970s and downloaded it (I have the LP from back then, too). It isn't a pleasant-sounding experience in some respects until I use my bass-helping headphones. But it truly was live.

You can’t actually say Dave KNEW it was lip synced UNLESS he had actual knowledge or the kind of data you had. You CAN say his statement was correct. There is an important difference.

Interesting. I was under the impression that it was a known fact that part of the show was mimed - that most of it is performed and each night is slightly different in when she has the chance to rest her voice.

She for sure has some playback songs. nobody could sing 3h day after day without having their vocal cords explode. For sure she has parts of the show where she sings live. But pretty sure the mid/uptempo songs are backed up. You can even see it with watching the lives. When she sings live, her mic is basically touching her lips. With sync she has it at least 10 inch away.

I been to many concerts and as a guitar player,setting close to stage,how can one play guitar so perfectly while running across the stage without missing a single chord ? Just asking 🤦🏻‍♂️🎸

If she is using a file and lip-synching--why change the name to "miming"?--that's understandable. But they have to give a disclaimer that she is not singing live. Fans will be ok with it. But pretending it is live is plain fraud.

Do Taylor Swift fans care? She's a good singer but not (IMO) a great one, there's nothing special about her voice. It's the act, the personality she projects and her image that they probably identify with.

If her fans just said “we don’t care if she’s not really live, even though SHE says she is, we just came for the VIBE” if they would just admit it. But they won’t, they refuse, their ENTIRE BELIEF SYSTEM, would come crumbling down.

I don't think this is surprising to most anyone who follows music these days. Many performers in "live" concerts don't sing live today due to their difficult choreography and/or demanding physical aspects of their sets during the concert. Even K-Pop idols have been criticized more recently for often not doing live singing in their concert performances.

She has some sophisticated system, where when she sings into the microphone, her pitch is instantly autocorrected. I'm sure there's some kind of AI program that does that. This way she avoids any embarrassing accidents like where the voice comes on, and she's not singing.

What we have to remind ourselves is that this is being presented as Live performance,and that by lip-synchyng Ms Swift is complisite in this deception.

And that is why I don't listen to Taylor Swift. Look, Rock and Roll country music was made to be played live warts and all. That's what makes it so great to see a live performance because it matters to the fans that they are performing live we are paying money to see a live performance not an audio track.

It's not hate or jealousy, it's just fact that vocal live performances can't be replicated pitch-wise to the millisecond like this unless it's the exact same recorded audio. I hope her fans understand what Fil is saying and she certainly isn't be the first to do it, but she has made the most money from it by far.
