20 Crash Cymbals Compared - From $70 to $570

Meinl or nothing

Yep, that's the $70 ZBT I have that I'm trying to replace with something else. It drowns out all my other cymbals, kinda sucks.
It's not worth selling, so has anyone made a trash stack out of their ZBT??

I only own a 18 zildjian a fast crash, 14 piste 2002 hihats, a wuhan 12 china, zildjian a medium thin ride 20, and a wuhan western 12 splash, and they all sound amazing. You don’t need expensive new cymbals, it’s the person who own a cymbal who makes it special.

The byzance foundry sounded awesome.

Bought the Wuhan thin crash. Played last night abd the bass player recognized immediately the sound difference between my ZDTs. Really like the lower pitched deeper sound.

Might have hit them a little (a lot!) more forcefully a couple times..... you're not really opening them up.

Dream Bliss crash cymbals are incredible, but don’t get their hi hats. Couldn’t stand them

The K constanople and fountry reserve are amazing.

Agreed on that Wuhan. Mostly they were all interesting at higher prices. The Paiste and Meinl dropped out on the lower end and sounded less dynamic/kinda dead by comparison.

Wuhan and Meinl HCS sounds great! I personally wouldn't pay more for cymbals because these sound great!

Horses for courses, a really good spread of tones and types, from simple short sustains to deeper wash and sizzle. The main thing for me is whether you can control the level of the wash rather than having something that over-sustains. Too crisp a ping on the strike without any higher tones is either a lesser alloy cymbal or going for a darker, dry tone. And the winner is.. I’m looking at Zil A’s so lighter than full Custom, I also like the Paiste offerings here if I was staying in a purely rock tone palette. The first Meinl didn’t appeal but they have a nice spectrum of tones in the HHX. The Wuhan certainly is full of colour, so useful in the right context, perhaps a second or third crash, to fill the role with near-fx resonance.

I think the Paiste signatures sound the best

Used zbt should never be $70.

My gigging set is virtually all Wuhan. The Agop 30ths are the best cymbals ever made and are my choice for the studio. They are my first and third picks from this list, with the Meinl Foundry Reserve getting spot #2. Great video.

Why Paiste is still the only company that makes really good b8 alloy cymbals? I dont why. Other make and it always feels like less pleasanr cymbal.

I love the Meinl Byzance Traditional Thin.

I’m just getting into drumming at age 43. I got some rythem bytes sultan cymbals. Not sure how they compare to the insane priced ones

The last two have that extra complexity and sheen.But I am a Zildjian Constantinople fan so biased.

The K Dark crash is the ideal crash sound.

Wuhan surprised me from 1 to 10 with a total of 9. But the problem with such cymbals is that they crack after a short time. Paiste signature traditionals have a very strong and defined tone like the Sabian Artisan.

Imo the best sounding ones are in the $400 range
