By viewing these episodes it appears that a good percentage of American couples are LGBT-LMNOP! I love Ramit’s financial acumen but highly disagree with his relationships world view. I guess this is another episode I can’t watch.

Thank you for educating your viewers and listeners about the fear that a lot of us in the LGBTQIA+ community endure on a daily basis right now. As I am also autistic, I'm keeping a close eye on RFK Jr's "autism registry," and although I'm trying to continue with life "as is," I know I'm at risk.

I live in a city that was segregated prior to 1964 (Seattle - I know Black people who couldn't be born at certain hospitals during that time because of the color of their skin), and you can still see the impact of redlining and Sundown Zones during that time of the city's history. Sadly, they're rebranding Sundown Zones in this city and doing it all over again for the sake of "safety." All it's doing is kicking disenfranchised communities while they're down.

I am grateful that I bought my condo when i did during the pandemic, I'm building a healthy investment portfolio, but I'm still scared that I'm going to lose everything because I'm going to be singled out because I am different from the norm in multiple ways. Sunnie and Jazmyne, I feel your pain, because I'm there too. Hang in there and try to stay sane. Sending love from the Pacific Northwest.

Excellent episode with some straight-talking by Ramit. Kudos to the young couple for starting the journey to educate themselves financially.

What I like about Ramit's approach is that he addresses systemic inequalities but also advocates for individual responsibility and accountability. Both are compatible.

Towards the end of this episode I got really emotional because I see my mom in Jazmyne. This is what I think it would’ve been like to talk to her in her late 20-early 30s. ❤ thanks for sharing this couple and I am wishing them the best.

I have to say by far this was one of my favorite episodes, the couple was so sweet and I totally understand doing things out of fear when you’re facing extreme adversity. I am privileged enough to live in a state/ region where my rights and existence are protected, but so many are not.

I appreciate the queer couples you’ve been having on lately, especially when the current admin in power wants to exterminate their existence, it’s important to realize we exist and will continue to do so, so thank you ❤

This also made me think too about how money really is connected politically and how generational trauma doesn’t just affect us emotionally, but financially too. I also really appreciate you pointing out the struggles black and queer people have faced and still continue to face and how that relates to career or money decisions. This was such a good episode all around of learning and reflecting.

Zero investments, 2 weeks worth of costs in savings, an expensive house, tens of thousands in consumer debt, and a seeming unwillingness to learn... their financial house is burning!

Ramit treated them with kid gloves.

@TheFourthWinchester - 21.05.2025 20:58

Ramit, you treated them with kid gloves since the start and you weren't true to yourself. So, they did not get the full force of Ramit that others usually get and hence they barely wanted to change. Most of the stuff that they did change, the guy was already on his way to change anyway. This episode didn't hit hard like usual.

I disagree with your statement that those with higher incomes should have a lower monthly spending percentage- it’s actually okay if it’s higher each month for high earners. They will end up saving a comparable amount if not more, even if their percentage is higher.

Ramit! this was touching on so many levels: the redlining exposure, the coasting in stuck mode, the savior complex, the politicized injustices of marginalized communities of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folx, bravo! 👏for this episode. I wish Sunnie and Jazmyne nothing but the very best. What a loving, caring, empathic couple. I felt all the feels in this episode. This is better than any Emmy award winning drama series out right now! FACTS!

I think they should sell the house as well as one of the cars and look for a solid entry level condo for the next few years. Jazmyne really didn't want anywhere near as much house as they bought and it would help with the cost of her going back to school (which I agree is a good idea). Even if they do start a family in the next couple of years (and I think they should wait until she's out of school so they spread out the financial hits those things entail) they won't need a bigger place immediately. They would probably have about 2 years from the time they decide to start a family to find another place, maybe more. The update was really good. It sounds like they've both made a number of sensible choices in a short time frame. They're both young and they need a solid foundation for whatever life they end up building together. Right now, they're on sand and just a couple of relatively minor setbacks could jeopardize everything.

Ah, they are so cute!!! I also appreciate seeing a couple that isn't the typical positive net worth, making 200K or more, etc. They are a more realistic example of an everyday couple.

Fantastic update from them as well. I hope that Jazmyne can find what she loves so that she can have that positive feeling of making her own living to share with the family.

Ok, I understand DMV area can be expensive and overrated, but I don't think it's what kills them. Their combined salary can afford it, just have to penny pitching somewhere else. What kills them is the double car payment and the insurance payment that ties to it, they need to find a way to have only one car note and try to go with DC public transportation until one of them is paid off.

Sounds like he encouraged her into a career where the earning potential he expects of her $120K or more is NOT EVEN CLOSE to being there. She's not stuck because she's scared nor "doesn't believe in herself", she may just have no realistic ideas for how to make a six figure income without special training or education...rock and a hard place. I'm also a bit confused as to whether he wants her to be career minded and grind grind grind to get to that place OR if she's a stay-at-home (or partial stay-at-home) mom?
