I’m not afraid, I’m just so sad. Padilla was treated disgracefully, of course, but as he talked about when he spoke later, “if they will do it to me” then just think what they will do to the ordinary folks who end up in their sights. People, who we know and care about, or even though who we don’t, who get shipped off or have loved ones shipped off to never be heard from again. That is pretty fear and trauma inducing. So there was a press briefing. Right? The senator heard them and stepped in. saw journalists sitting respectfully and waiting to have it opened for questions. But this senator immediately started asking his question in the middle of her speaking.
Back to protocol. Is this ok? I've watched other happenings where someone interrupting was physically removed. Did him being a senator who dropped in on a press briefing, give him an ok to blurt out whatever he asked?
I know I must be missing something.

My understanding is that members of Congress have authority to visit detention centers and this senator probably had a right to be there too. But this administration is unfairly and unlawfully taking this authority away from Congress. It took 250 and an authoritarian president to be in place to show that Congress needs backup of their own police to enforce their authority.

My understanding from an interview with Sen Padilla that I watched this morning, is that Padilla was accompanied by federal agents himself. And the "proud boys" with Noem ignored them. You can start to hear a little of that towards the end of the footage, when someone with Noem tries to tell the person who is recording it, that they can't record video in a federal building. You can HEAR the person tell him that he has to record because that's his boss who they have on the ground. So Noem's thugs CHOSE to respond the way that they did, because they simply refused to listen or adhere to what they were being told.
