I Love my 2013 tdi yet would prefer it as original . With the retrofit I'm getting issues w the EGR & Particulate filters on Bank 1
I have to find a Shop to do the Repairs under Warranty ; sadly there are No VW near here and I can't just drop it off either as its also my Medically necessary transportation.
The VW'S were & are still gr8t
But the "fix" has a few Bugs ; aside from CAL emissions being a Scam from an engineering standpoint as EGR systems Ruin the engines by Grand Deceptive design aka Fraud .
Heck HONEST engineers Albeit all come to this conclusion .

Sad laughable situation
Mine is Brand new Inspected & passed in Virginia w Emissions Fix and Tested Hwvr I'm told here in WV I have to get it inspected AGAIN w out any emissions testing as the State wants money for an inferior Test ; correct me if I'm wrong isn't that Racketeering and Fraud by the State of WV & an Unlawful forced Contract ?!!!
There was Nothing really to inspect as all Was In Safe working order except the Need for emissions Certification to satisfy the EPA .
Besides under Insurance Laws & Regs the Owner is Responsible for their Autos safety and the State exceeds Jurisdiction by making it Compensory ...Tis Racketeering, Fraud and yes an Unlawful & Unconstitutional forced Contract and Directly OPPOSED TO the Supreme Court .

Diesels get far worse fuel economy with epa added parts. So we are burning more fuel to get where we are going. How is that good for the environment? Plus people buy DEF in plastic jugs. So we have millions of plastic jugs getting thrown away and we're using more fuel. Thanks epa!

Here's my thoughts, car makes more power with cheater software, and it gets better mileage. So it does counter set the emissions. They don't roll coal, so piss off EPA. Rather the extra mileage ,

Why? The government gave them a slap on the hand, they paid a few million dollar fine, wrapped themselves in the American flag and yelled "Support our troops!"

why disengage ESP/ASR ? why don't you measure emmisions on a 4wd dyno ? do you know that ECU goes into system failure mode when abs detects an error? (like unplugging rear wheels speed sensors ). what was the requirements or specifications after this test was done ?

Which will be far more reliable than the new ones who are far more sensitive given the larger amount of emissions equipment on them.

Diesel aren’t meant to run with all of the dpf/ egr crap they can’t preform at the maximum efficiency nor will it last as long with the emissions. A diesel is designed to to move a lot of air/fuel in a in unrestricted way. This is why 70-80 percent of new diesel vehicles are in and out of the shops. If you remove all of the emissions and run a normal exhaust and have it tuned properly it will still emit less pollution then the maximum allowed in the states.

This DieselGate shit is so stupid, it’s the transmission and it’s various sensors that want to prevent you from using all that TQ to do burnouts that causes this issue, nothing more. The car obviously has wheel speed sensors and a computer as a brain running every system. So this computer is smart enough on behalf of its programmers to know that if the front wheels are doing xxx MPH and the rear wheels aren’t moving then the car is doing something wrong, aka a burnout is what it thinks your doing. Not emissions testing lol. This is a warranty reduction effort. People are stupid

I still think this is a load of horse shit. These engines were designed to be less polluting then previous TDIs to which was theswitch to common rail fuel injection and fitting the exhaust with dpf filters in-conjunction with the egr system. The epa most likely had new ridiculous emission standards for diesel vehicles for this era in which made releasing any vehicle extremely hard due to impossible standards set out by the government. In VWs defence, they had to “cheat” and lower the performance to sell their cars period to which was a big red flag from the epa. Of course they made VW look like the devil in court even though they had a less polluting engine which was still progress from the previous 1.9L tdi without the use of any particulate filter. That progress wasnt good enough for them and still chose to penalize them despite setting virtually impossible regulations for any car manufacturer to produce and sell diesel engines. Yes, diesels do contain more pollutants then gasoline fuel combustion, however they should have been more lenient with VW instead of nearly bankrupting the largest car brand in Germany for trying to make progress. Diesels only pollute when peak torque is reached, particulate filters found in any modern diesel stop black exhaust from exiting the tailpipe. My opinion for diesels is that these systems should be easier to service and clean ensuring that more diesel vehicles can be on the road achieving significantly higher fuel milage then 95% of any other vehicle on the road. You shouldn’t eliminate this kind of fuel efficiency when the world is running out of oil because of self-righteous environmentalists in government that aren’t satisfied with the progress in making diesel engines run cleaner with the use of DPF.

Detecting an emissions test is as easy as comparing wheel speed sensor readings from the front wheels vs the rear wheels then de tuning the injector mapping.

14 jetta and 15 Passat and both fixed by VW. The 14 lost power the 15 we can't tell any difference. The 15 is geared taller and the engine VW modified from the 14 OEM. The 15 engine design was much cleaner then previous years. I think VW was trying to get into compliance and maybe would have by 16 had they not stopped making diesels. the 15 with the dsg still averages 39/40mpg with 50 mpg easily on trips. We do our own maintenance and both have been reliable.

I can confirm these results by my experience. The car notably loses low rev torque when WV "emission fix" map is installed instead of original one. They did correct job with original map, but this "fixed" one is garbage. Even bigger problem is that new map produces 3x more soot and fills DPF that much faster, and also clogges EGR at that much faster pace. Fortunatelly... there is a fix to that, too.

the EPA is full of shit.. ridiculous standards that were insane to achieve without serious driving deficits or costs. Also, how much emissions did the huge 18 wheelers that had to transport these cars to huge parking lots emit? Just one of those belched out enough pollutants to cover virtually all of the cars. When will people realize the EPA is nothing but a shake down and an agenda
