This battle was fought by the British and the French fighting against the German empire on the western front, on July 17th, for control of the southern and eastern ridges of the Belgium city. The city of Ypres in west flanders, as part of a strategy decided by the Alilies in November 1916 and December 1917. When the battle started it started to rain. Thousands of soldiers drowned in the mud, tanks got stuck in the mud and the crew was left to die. The battle lasted three months and it was unsuccessful.
