Is Octopath Traveler The BEST Nintendo Switch Game?

I’m reading reviews to get inspired playing switch again. My Zelda BOTW and Octopath Traveller are sitting for 3 yrs now lol. Last game I played on Switch is Civilization6 and I can’t effin beat it that’s why I quit lol

How did I miss this game for three years?! I just saw it on gamepass and downloaded on a whim. As someone who grew up on Final Fantasy Tactics, it feels like I found an old friend

I love how, after 3 years, this is still exactly what I think of Octopath, but also what I think of Triangle Strategy that just came out (same, if not EVEN better) - also eager for your review of Triangle!!

Dude I'm trying to finish FFVI Pixel Remaster before buying and starting Octopath...but this review has me so hype I'm thinking I might pick it up today.

Is it a bit like golden sun on GBA ?

I must be in the minority. I stopped playing because the game would force me through level caps to bounce between each characters’ story instead Of just focusing on one the whole way through. I’ll pick it up again but after ten hours I was too frustrated to keep going.

There never was and never will be 10/10 game. I can find so many flaws in this one..

This might be the best rpg of all time and also I only played the demo

This game has, without a doubt, the most stunning visuals I've ever seen in a Switch game. The background set pieces are STUNNING1 If this had been the art style for Bravely Default for the 3DS, that would have made it my all-time favorite RPG.

It’s been 4 years. I took breaks but everytime I’d play I’d be up alll night turns out I only have tressa, Therion, Cyrus and alfyns story completed, so I’m here playing even more happy I haven’t beaten this game yet

First off, great to see a young, healthy, energetic BeatEmUps |-)

Funny how hard this game is to find physically now. I originally skipped because their pioneered HD-2D was kind of jarring to my vision. Nowadays with so many game having adapted it plus the sequel having recently dropped, I finally gave the demo a real go. 15ish game hours later...the search for a copy ended on eBay. I'm sure I'll love it when it arrives in a few days

I tried this game a demo and I am very surprised by the reactions around me. In my experience, the game was too boring, slow, and sometimes just too cheesy. The visuals were amazing, yes, but the stories were OK, way too overdone with the dialogue, it takes too many clicks to get through a simple conversation. The fighting was so boring, you just select an attack and watch a simple swipe animation flash, then select an attack, watch the animated swipe, over and over and over... I was fighting sleep the whole time. The music was okay, it fit the themes of the various landscapes well, but nothing that moved me. Some of the stories were fun, like The Huntress and The Thief, but the worst was The Sorceress, extremely cringey and just saturated with weak attempts correlating to something real-world. Clearly the writers only had a very basic idea of a character look and just went with something to fill the visual design, and it was a poor result.
I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, and I expect that. Some may say this game style just isn't for me, maybe, but it should still be able to be entertaining at SOME level. And this was not.

The story and characters suck which unfortunately kept it from being a masterpiece as everything else in the game is 10/10.

Overall score 7.5 (story and characters are really that bad)

Also I played this game to the end with 100 hours in gameplay, so no 5 hour of gameplay opinion here!

Loved this game. The only part that wasn't cool was the true final part... It was MERCILESS (a save/checkpoint would've solved that)

This is easily the best RPG I have ever played tied with Skies of Arcadia Legends. Now if only Nintendo could remaster Skies of Arcadia then I'll be REALLY happy!!

No. Its not even close. Its a good game, but a tad slow and grindy

Just unlocked my eighth character. This game is amazing it really shows you how modern games graphics does not beat gameplay. But the art style in itself is just a gem
