About your engine stand to balance the engine for easier rotation, mount the plate from the stand slightly off center from the crankshaft towards the middle of the engine block, the better weight balance you have the easier it is to rotate.

Too bad BMW never built an M8 for the public,but it probably would have been too pricy for the market back then. I’ve always like the styling of the 8 series cars but from what I read back in the day the cars steering was somewhat numb,didn’t feel like a BMW. My E-30 M3 had wonderful steering that gave great feedback so you knew what the car was doing in a corner.

Just found this video. Fantastic job! I did this exact same rebuild during lockdown 1 in 2020! With dbilas cams m70 oil pump and all vapour blasted parts. I’m yet to actually start my one because I sold the countach replica it was going into for the m70 v12 murcielago replica it’s now my spare engine! I did a reel on my instagram page with my rebuild.

This engine design could pass for a modern day 2024 engine and it being a 40 year old design is amazing really. Almost half a century ago and thats what BMW was capable of

I had paper gaskets fail before. I never had a paper gasket/RTV combination fail before.

I use paper gaskets with locktite non hardening aviation sealant.

what kind of grease do you apply on oring for water pump

Every time you broke out that brush and sealant, all I could hear in your voice was "no accidents, just happy gaskets" ....You are truly an inspiration, great work man!!!

Explaining better way to seal than factory and try to cross bad idea and pen stops working becoz its a bmw

My guess is even with the sealant you used it will still leak, I guess time will tell.

Trick for removing paper gaskets that have turned hard on the surface and are stubborn is paint thinner. We get paint thinner spray cans and use that to soak the paper gasket. It does really good at releasing the paper gasket.
