The WS6 came out in 1978 as a performance upgrade. For handling and brakes. When combined with the W72 400 . Pontiac got the F-body Firebird as a poor replacement for the XP-883 Banshee because Crybaby Chevy didn't want their Vette to get beat.

I watch from South Africa. We never had the privilege to enjoy or see these cars. We can just marvel at them. They are LHD and are RHD. Sometime sad about what are missing. Even this old girl is an exotic.

Those wheels were only on the formula, there was a similar wheel on the Trans Am but it was definitely different.

The WS6 code was started in 1973 with the super duty trans Am package it has continued all the way up to 03

1982 firebird rans am and the 1977 Pontiac trans am firebird

The formula of that particular year was basically a Trans Am without the ground effects at the same suspension motor and transmission and rear spoiler cool package

The Firebird is superior to the Camaro. Looks better and performs better. My first car was an '89 Formula 350. Best car I ever owned.

Love Trans Am/Firebirds. I wish they would have ended on a better note like Mustang and Corvette. They deserved more respect than just nostalgia.

It is called the "Screaming Chicken"

For the third generation (1982-1992) Pontiac Firebird, the Formula is the mid-level trim (TransAm and GTA are the top), which came with optional 5.0L V8 (305 ci) engines and an optional handling package (WS6), that this one has. The option codes are listed on a sticker in the center console, if it is a real WS6, it will show that option code in the list. Only the Formulas came with that offset hood scoop, and no ground effects (only T/A). In 1987-98, there was an optional 5.7L V8 (350ci) engine (but only mated to an automatic transmission) those came with "Formula 350" on the door decals and the VIN would have a number 8 in the eight digit to confirm that engine.

The ws6 package was a suspension package dating back to 1978. The 4th gen is when they made it a suspension and appearance package, making it a little more well known.
