While I think Version B is the better game from an overall standpoint, the single meter trust system is flawed from a logical perspective. While it can create a balancing act and make it feel like your choices have more impact, there are just some bits where it doesn't make sense. Like tapping the antenna in the JBA safehouse. The JBA doesn't know you've done that, so why should you lose trust with them over it? That sort of thing.

After the Iceland mission I was like wtf is this game😂 nothing was how I was use to playing at all. They really dropped the ball on double agent in my opinion.

This video felt much shorter than it was, a sign of a good one imo! Absolutely love both versions and always have fun replaying them. The main menu music, fits the tone perfectly. It would be very cool to see version 2 with the graphics of 1.

The funny thing is that in the PC version you had SOME ps2 cutscenes and nothing else. So must of the time you don't understand shit. Like in the first mission you enter rushing to the helicopter and with different clothes

It's so bizarre that these were two very different games, and at the time, I had no idea the OG Xbox version was made by the same studio that made Chaos Theory whilst the 360 version (which I played) was a different developer entirely. I finally remedied this teenage oversight a few years ago and gave the Montreal version a playthrough, and whilst not as sharp as Chaos Theory, it was still a great experience, and the last genuinely more traditional Splinter Cell game. I played it back to back with Shanghai's Double Agent, and there's no doubt Montreal's is the superior game. Still, I like the 360 version too and have some nostalgia for it, particularly its mercs vs spies mode which I played a lot, though again, it wasn't as good as Chaos Theory's. It's biggest problem is that it has too many daylight missions in what is meant to be a game about sneaking around stealthily in the dark; I still really don't understand the design philosophy with that one... This review was great though in breaking each game down side by side and I'll definitely be checking out more of your work!

Though, could somebody explain to me how it makes any sense that the NSA wouldn't have raided the JBA the moment they acquired the presumably highly illegal 'red mercury' substance given it can make nukes? I mean, how much more evidence does their double agent need to gather before they shut this terrorist operation down, but no, New York has to be on the precicipe of a nuclear detonation for Sam to finally be given the fifth freedom?! The plot basically makes no sense within the context of what a double agent actually is, but hey, these are just mid-2000s video games after all...

Sitting in 2023 or 2024 and reviewing games that came out over 15 years ago is a bit unfair. At that time, we enjoyed the games for what they were. But to sit with todays eyes and making criticizing older games just aint right.

Just completed PS2 version on PCSX2, and comparing to footage in video, its quite simplified version. I would suggest to pick XBOX variant, if you have choice for version 2.

A nice touch is in both versions, you can interrogate the main JBA members one last time in the finals levels (excluding Enrica for Version B).

Neva played version B, I must say Version A is a 5/10 they honestly rushed it could've been wayy better 😤

I was so excited to play a new Splinter Cell on my Xbox 360 and ended up feeling let down. I didn't realize the Xbox version was different until later but managaged to grab a copy. This was the first time in the series that I felt like they really screwed up. The Xbox version didn't look very good, or there were at least parts that looked terrible, but I liked it more. The choices being made with Fisher essentially talking to the player came off as stupid. This was really the beginning of the end of me being a Ubisoft fan. I don't even bother looking at their games anymore. I have some issues with Blacklist, but I think Blacklist and Chaos Theory are the best games in the series. I hope they do well with the Splinter Cell remake, but I doubt it.

What is the most efficient and easy way to play Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory and Double Version 2? I absolutely love all 4

I wanted to play DA again on pc, but the infamous Shanghai opening bug killed my desire to seek out a fix for it, so i will just relive it through your video.
Also while Shanghai leaned more towards Mission impossible esque sequences and setpieces, Montreal also leaned a bit in that direction with the bank heist for example. The Train mission in PT was pretty neat, and CT's Bank mission is also pretty fantastic in how they make you feel as a player when you climb down the rope into the hall with lasers that you deactivate remotely.

i really like ps 2 version more. new gen version is kind a chore. same mission in same place a lot times. ps2 version is like a chaos theory lite

In the JBA HQ mission for version B, there's an email on Emile's PC that mentions him finding an arms dealer who works for the government.

Now, you find out later that it was Lambert, who's doing so to give you support without blowing your cover, but the cool thing is that you can immediately sus out that it's Lambert because he was going by the alias "Wilkes".
