As of right now Taiwan will be defended by her allies because of their microchip industry as most of the world’s smart-chips are made there. If the PRC gets ahold of them and uses them in their weapons, the rest of the world is in big trouble. There are other reasons why the world will defend Taiwan, but that’s the biggie.

China has too much local debt, resulting from earlier growth at any price. They need to work off that debt, seems to be the only option they have. They can't inflate it away (currency already way undervalued), or grow it away. Luckily, china has full control over banking, so this can be done a la greece, with low interbank rates, but high loan rates to discourage more debt. Ie they can have low govt debt rates buying them time, without the usual expansionary result, if govts are instructed to work within budgets and pay back debt. Basically an internal IMF program.
