This theory feels like it holds a lot of water. Legit how I got into TCGs again was Pokemon Pocket. More into One Piece but the only sets of Pokémon I'm collecting are the earliest vintage sets and 151 so far.

But the people fighting over cards might mostly be flippers who’s just in it for the money and actually don’t care about the franchise

I love your videos but I don't believe that the release of Kadabra in the TCG caused the 2024/2025 boom.

When 151 came out in September 2023 (which was 1 whole year before Surging Sparks which started the boom), regular Elite Trainer Boxes of 151 remained MSRP for months online. I remember because I bought multiple of them, only the booster bundles were sold out and overpriced because ETB's were still MSRP. The videos you see people fighting in Costco for the Blooming Waters box was in 2025, not in 2023. Some card stores went above MSRP in 2023 for 151 which was stupid when you could still buy stuff online in 2023 at MSRP. Yes 151 definitely got more people into Pokemon cards but the next 6 sets didn't gain as much hype with booster boxes well below MSRP because they focused on Scarlett Violet Pokemon (minus Paldean fates which is a special set) whereas 151 had the nostalgia factor which Scarlett Violet Pokemon can't replicate.

Surging Sparks was also the 1st set to have well known Pokemon like Pikachu / Latios / Latias / and Milotic being the chase cards, Prismatic Evolutions was similar to Evolving Skies since it has all Eeeveelutions in SIR's and are super hard to pull, Journey Together had Trainer Gallery Cards & Destined Rivals had trainer gallery cards and focused on Team Rocket (minus Jessie & James), and Black Bolt / White Flare has illustration rares for literally every Pokemon (which is the first set to ever do this) which is why they are all getting a lot of hype. It's known that the 2nd half of a series is more desirable because the Pokemon company aren't focusing on the current Gen and focus on different types of cards (such as Tag Team in Sun / Moon, Alt Arts, or Trainer Gallery Cards in Sword / Shield) or favorite Pokemon like Gengar, Lugia, Latios / Latias, Rayquaza, Giratina, Mewtwo, Eeveelutions,, etc. I bet the hype will die once Gen 10 cards come out because again, they will focus only on Gen 10 pokemon and lack nostalgia and well known Pokemon.

I also firmly believe Pokemon Pocket had a huge influence which you did mention. Pocket came out 1 week before Surging Sparks and Surging Sparks sold out in 1 week everywhere which started the boom. The older Scarlett Violet sets eventually went above MSRP but it took months.

Want a good video if topps made pokemon again it will break the pokemon market forever. Topps disney and Marvel cards products are rocket higher than pokemon. If topps came out with pokemon again and made Serial number Pokémon cards. It's over for all tcg cards.

Knowing how Pokemon operates now they're gonna use past controversies (or stuff present as deemed fit) to charge another nostalgia boom to garner interest. It's like Freezer Free Marketing if you can call it that.

It's crazy how this affects most of the northern hemisphere. Here in my country, Destinied Rivals ETBS are (approx) 60usd in spanish and 70usd in english, and I've never seen stock running out in the store I usually go. I think it has to do with us not having big chain suppliers such as Costco or Gamestop, so we usually get stuff from small stores that are in partnership with Pokemon Company. I'm not sure if you guys can only preorder through those stores or if your local stores let you preorder too, since that's how we do it here O:
