Speaking as someone with Aspergers Syndrome, keep being funny and ignore the weird people who obsess on this stuff. I had a comedian make jokes to my face about it and my stomach hurt from laughing so hard (he was joking about his dad who had it, asked if anyone had it). He came to me after the show and gave me a hug and said he could tell I would enjoy it and have no problem with it. I knew there was zero hate behind it, just an invitation to laugh at the world.

Disabled is better than special needs. I speak as a stroke semi-survivor.

Whenever someone says something like "they prefer ..." my first question to them is "did you speak to them?"

Call me out if you must, but I don't actually see any literal problem with the term "retarded". It means slow, and that's perfectly accurate for some people. It does get more complicated for some types of people with learning disabilities, I know, but it's still a perfectly fine and fair term in my opinion.

Growing up I had two friends who had CP. They were two of the funniest guys I've ever known. People would often call them retarded and they'd just play along. While they did SOUND like a mentally handicapped person, their were actually brilliant. Their brains weren't affected. They both loved to ride horses so they could "walk". I miss those guys!
