I’ve been sticking mostly to full bottles of ink but watching a few of these responses, rethinking that. You’re so right - it takes forever to empty a bottle!

Hi, Kendall, love that you were inspired by Neil Gaiman… and that you filmed this tag. I keep a Pilot Varsity next to our classroom sign out sheet, and students love it—it’s a great conversation-starter.

I think we want to try many of the same pens. And have the same thoughts about this hobby, it is so hard to go slow and explore to inform future purchasing decisions. There is so much amazing stuff out there that is just waiting ... we'll get there when we get there!

I see you use a Lamy 1.1 stub nib..
I use one in a Jinhao 80 and love it
I also like my Pilot78g with a B stub nib. Very smooth

I'm so glad you did this tag video!!! It is really cool to "meet you" and hear about your fountain pen journey! I had the same not good experience with the Sailor Compass. I'm counting on a pen show one day to be able to try a gold nib Sailor.
I still love my Pilot Varsity's and I refill my black one and purple one!!! Just recently my grocery store started carrying them. Hopefully more people will find the fountain pen hobby because of that pen being mainstream and awesome!

So interesting, I love that you started your journey beacuse of your love of literature, and even though your were intimated at first you still gave it it go :) I also started with Diamine, I think it was a great beginner brand and still love it now too :)

I really like the Schon DSGN monoc nib. Architect nibs are great, and make printing look interesting.

There are two grail pens on my list, a Conway Stewart Churchill and a Pelikan M800. Ink is out of control, but i tamed my sample collection by not buying more samples until I finish the ones I currently have. I am down to four brown samples and a few more purple inks and then maybe I will buy an occasional sample. Enjoyed the video, keep them coming please.

Kendall, loved your response video! I also consider the Pilot 823 as one of my grail pens. I’ve also had lackluster experiences with the Sailor Compass unfortunately, but I absolutely love my other Sailors!
