I have to say, your French is getting better over the years that you have been entertaining and enlightening us, but the poor people of Le Havre today are bloodied and weeping from the butchering of the pronunciation of their city! Ever thought of getting a tutor to help you learn and master the pronunciations of cities and other places in Europe? Seriously, you do such good work..mastery of French, German and Italian locations (at a minimum) would add so much more to your storytelling. I don’t say this to insult you, but to encourage you to think about enhancing your channel with sounds that at least approximate these words. I am an American too, and know that we get terrible language learning over here. But as a French speaker, I know how much it adds to your legitimacy as a historian to learn those names and say them well. Think about it…

Throughout all of these wars, even today, I can't help but wonder how amazing this planet would be without the scourge of religion. The misogyny against women, the millions of deaths, and even the incestuous, tragic marriages of royals and their offspring has improved nothing. Humanity is STILL fighting for equality and peace all because MEN have created gods to "obey" and "laws of religion" they have chosen to interpret and twist to suit them when needed. It's all so infuriating and unbelievably heartbreaking.

I always find it absurd that many call Catherine de Medici was a commoner. Yes, her father was not of royal blood or aristocratic enough and his title of Duke of Urbino basically on loan to them and was returned to it’s legitimate own later. But many tend to forget than even if Catherine did not end up marrying Henry II, she would still be the sovereign Countess of Auvergne upon the death of her aunt Anne de La Tour d’Auvergne in 1524. In fact, Catherine de Medici became the sovereign Countess of Auvergne in 1524 at the age of 5 though control of the county was held by her uncle John Stewart, Duke of Albany and jure uroxis Count of Auvergne and Lauraguais. John Stewart died in 1536 and thus the control of the County of Auvergne should have passed to Catherine de Medici, but as she was already married to Henry, Duke of Orleans - the control and authority over the county was exercised by her current guardian, none other than King Francis I of France. Upon Catherine’s death, the County of Auvergne, Boulogne and Lauraguais merged with the French crown and thus in made the County the last French independent sovereign feudal state to be absorbed to the French crown.

Of course Mary I executed less people than her father. Henry VIII reigned for 38 years. Mary reigned for 5 years....its an annoying non point.

Why must you insert “both were notorious womanizers”? What relevance is that to the story that you are telling. Elizabeth didn’t care and neither did Catherine. This did not affect them in any way whatsoever!

Re the ad for women’s health pills - there is no such thing as “post-menopause,” the proper term is menopause, which is what a woman remains in until the day she dies. Therefore, the only thing post-menopause is being deceased and one wouldn’t need pills to help with that! Sorry, but if you’re trying to sell me pills to take after I’m gone, you have totally lost my respect.

I have to wonder if Elizabeth’s refusal to produce an heir was a snub to her father and his destructive obsession with securing the Tudor dynasty. The line died with her, maybe she had the last laugh and it was revenge for her mother.

Wonderful and interesting content. Very intriguing. The only thing, if you please, is that the pronunciation of Chenonceau should be like this: ʃɑto də ʃənɔ̃so in IPA. The last 'eau' in Chenonceau sounds identical to the eau in Château. Basically "ceau" = "so".

Scientifically speaking, the disease syphilis needs to be in the body for many years to kill. I don't understand how Catherine did not contract syphilis, but her father died from it. He would have been an active carrier of the disease before her birth, implying that her mother would have caught it too.

I've always been really sad for Elizabeth, thinking she never wanted to be married, then the moment she thought she might want to, her people didn't want him to be her husband. ❤️ Gloriana has always been my favorite queen and if I could go back in time, I'd definitely go back to see Elizabeth at her court.
