The aircraft is painted to represent the Harvard campaigned by Gary Numan, as part of the Harvard Formation Team and the double Harvard team, called the ‘Radial Pair’, when he partnered with the late Norman Lees, in the late 1980’s early 90’s.

The teams and aircraft were based at North Weald in Essex, where I flew models at the time. Gary always took great interest in the models flying and I was lucky enough to get a back seat trip in his Harvard one day for thirty minutes non-stop aerobatics!

He was a very good display pilot and a safe one, someone who always stressed the need for things to be safe when display flying.

I chose the color scheme, a) because it is different and the single colour shows off the Harvard’s lines well;
and b) because I have flown in the aircraft, so it seemed the natural choice.
