Top Gear - BMW Z4 vs Boxster vs S2000 + POWER laps

I've owned the even better 3.2 S 6 speed Boxster for the last 18 years.
The ride is exceptional for a sportscar and the handling is beautifully balanced making it a precision tool for rapid progress where conditions allow. The flat 6 howl is addictive when you get over 4000rpm and open the variocam system.
The S2000 is interesting from the point of view of its amazing engine but doesn't quite do it for me.
The Z4 just seems to be trying too hard.

My z4 never even came with cup holders 😢

Frined of mine said he has more joy in his 1990 vtec honda crx then in this porsche boxter and its broken all the time.
Never heard something on a s2000.

so if you invested 7000 euros less into the s2000 back then, now you get 10000- 15000 Euros more then the other two!

Had an 02 S2000 and loved it. Till I locked the engine

Bought my 2006 Z4 3.0SI in 2010, still have it. The S2000 is great, and I like Porsches, but my Z4 is still great. To my eyes, that year Boxster looks to be more dated than the others.

Now in 2024 just bought a Z4M because I can’t afford a S2000. Pure insanity.

Now you can get a Boxter and Z4 for 4k dollars and S2000's selling for 30k, 40k,50k.......what the hell.

These are very different cars for very different reasons. Unfortunately I cant address the S200, but I think the Boxster is the better car out of all, bit more roomy, compliant but capable suspension, and easy to drive quickly. The Z4 is a bit squirrely with the traction control off and with it on at times, harder suspension, and demands constant attention when driven quickly. I actually have owned two Z4s 3.0si. You will either love it or hate it. Perhaps a strange point, but it never lets you forget exactly what you're driving.

As A BMW Z4 owner I’d be morworried about the S2000 than the wimpy Boxter!

20 years later, the Porsche is the BEST car. The Honda was the best investment and a very good car. The Z4 somewhere in the middle.

Also today. The Boxster Cayman has become BETTER than a 911 for driving. Looks great now too vs the original Miata looking boxster

Somewhere it is funny how the Boxter at the time only had 5 gears. I mean, an Iveco Daily already had 6 gears at that time 😂

Those who own an S2000 just know. The best driving experience, ultra reliable & just the best sports car hands down. Nothing else drives quite like one.

Do you want a poor mans Porsche or a ricer? Buy a Z4 3.0si...six speed. My daily driver. Second I would say is the boxster. The S2000 is great if you want to ring the shit out of it all the time, has to be all the time. The honda is also ugly in my opinion.

Why isn't anyone mentioning the fact that James May was driving a 2.7 Boxster... the 3.2 S absolutely blows the Z4 and S2K out of the water.

I've owned like 20 cars in my life... every time, a different model/brand... I have owned 2 S2000s... Still owning one after 13 years. Best. Car. Ever.

I see the comments and JDM morons applauding that the S2000 went up in value and how it got cheated in the race. But in the real world, nobody cares. Only butthurt S2k fanboys will lament about the windshield wipers and wet track and claim their poop box is worthy of worship. Go and put your ugly faces into that fart can exhaust of your S2000s for that's where you belong. The Boxster and that Z4 will always be a class above your poop boxes.

All are great cars! Porsche has the better badge and heritage IMHO.

I have a 2003 boxster 2.7 and it’s a blast. Do like the look of the z4 but boxster all day for me

fast fwd to 2022, look at the resale value of these cars, clearly the S2000 bags the trophy of being the wisest choice
