Eu4 Master's Guide to the HRE: Protestant Reformation

Great guide. One thing in this video is not clear to me. After about 3 minutes he spoke about a building claim network. Aren't you bound to fabricating adjecent provinces?

I passed the "disallow internal wars" before the protestant reformation took any steem. So I had a bunch of heretical princes being converted from the first center of reformation who I couln't fight. I guess you have to take it on the chin if they don't have allies outside of the HRE.

lets say a country has two provinces and the religious center is not the capital. Can i take the Capital and force religion to destroy the center?

Hey do you think you might ever take a look at Scotland? I found slurping up Ireland in 1-2 years then England splits it's army to Ireland letting you play around that. Also tried avoiding the Auld Alliance until after the event triggers and forming it after. Sometimes you can get Burg and France as allies if they don't rival each other but England never leave the mainland. Also allies can never get to the mainland. Best case you get France+ally to dick Portugal seperate peace them out but I'm having a ton of trouble finding a consistent gameplan. Thanks all.

whats the intro song you use at the start?

I like protestantism, first the cash and then you get basically three free religious ideas. Is it possible to change the state religion to protestantism later on, after you establish reichsfriede? Because if you convert you lose your emperor title :(

HOw are you able to core Heidelberg once you take it from Wurttemberg? Does the age modifier also affect the coring distances?

a top series, Monk, but here's a word of warning for your followers about excommunication from a hideous RNG experience ;
Pope loved me, papal control passed to Switzerland who loved me, so i took my eye off papal approval level (busy with wars, suppressing reformation centres, etc.). Switzerland excommunicated me out of the blue -- at which time he had rivals whom he hated and didn't excommunicate, and no longer in love with me but still full green 97 positive opinion, while Pope still loved me but opinion had sunk to red 0, which I guess means a fraction below yellow 0 and therefore technically negative. even so, wtf in spades. NEVER trust even a friendly controller not to target you. Took a century to get the emperorship back, and finally managed to revoke the privilegia circa 1710s, but was gruelling. dont think i could have done even that without your cool advise re how to reign in Italy, so thanks for the series

and a PS about my Swiss negligence and the RNG aspect ; I had recreated Switzerland after Savoy oblitterated, hence his high opinion of austrian emperor, and he became papal controller maybe 10 years later, maybe less. Exactly how a newly recreated country with one or zero cardinals in residence can become controller so quickly, or even at all, is beyond me

You may have addressed this somewhere and I didn't catch it, but when you were at war with Wurtemburg for example, you just took Heidelberg, why didn't you also release Ansbach?

This isn’t right! In my many games all 6 centers of reformation had the100% debuff admittedly in most of my games I destroyed centers before they could convert another nation but this wasn’t always true!

Good info monk! Do you have any idea how many episodes you plan to make this series? I only ask because its almost 1520 in your game and the slide in the intro is not to far away now.

Greast vid. You forgot to mention one thing. The leage will only form when atleast one elector is protestant. A reformed elector do not count. ofc you want that imperial authority so it dont matter much since not even a prince should be either protestant or reformed.

Could you explain us in a seperate guide how to get good economy and enough admin powers so religious ideas is nearly fullfilled 1500?

Dunno about you guys but my vassals won't add any provinces to the empire despite them being princes of the HRE and me having good relations with them. Can anyone explain this? I looked through many forums and it seems that this is quite common. In my games the only time provinces are ever added by princes other than me is when a prince is threatened by an outside power (ie Savoy because of France).

One additional tip... just declare war on OPMs with centers in them, even without CBs. The time you need to justify is enough to convert at least three provinces, thats up to -0.3 authority a month.I was able to keep the reformation down to one prince, that wasn't worth the fight because he was allied to three of my allies. And to skip religious war entirely and form HRE nation by late 1500s.

In my game the first cnetre spawned in heidelberg. However, the Palatinate does not convert and stays catholic. What is the best strategy for this szenario?

I have run into quite a problem in my own game. So a province of protestant reformation spawned on mainz who is still an opm. But i cant force religion on them because they are not changing their state religion. So i annexed them but cant convert it due to the 100%- zeal modifier. I released them hoping the new ai ruler would maybe change its state religion since all its provinces were protestant and unable to convert. But they didnt. I kept playing and they never did change their state religion. In the end i took it and converted after the zeal modifier disapeared. But it really fucked up my playthrough

I did it! Revoked in 1552, first time ever making it there. Always hated the RNG with PU's and the like so this kind of game play was just my thing, I did however mess up the religion a bit by doing the no internal wars enactment when the religions just started appearing, didn't realize it would also stop me from attack countries!
Other then that and a few excommunications and a bit of hassle with the Otto-Turk it was smooth sailing.

Thanks for peaking my interest in EU4 again, I haven't played for months but these last few days I've been completely addicted again.

Monk wheres the last video? You said you would make one on what you did after revoking. Also would like to see ideas as well as maybe a goals list or something for this series.

If a smaller country gets the first center and it doesnt switch religion you are able to fully annex them, then release the country as vassel this should switch it to protestant, cancel the vasall and then after truce (should be 5years) declare war and force religion. This always should be faster and cheaper then waiting 30years to convert and deal with the result of the center.

In my game I've dealt flawlessly with protestant CoRs, but first reformed CoR spawned in my capital :c

I have huge problem and dont know how to solve it, I am on 1497 year, dont have personal union with Hungary (have claim trone that year - is it worth to dissolve alliance, truce brake it and force it to union despite that they are in alliance with france, or i can wait and it will be done in future without truce braek just like that) and second major problem is i have 3 reformation centar allready spawn (problem is i can force religion unity couse it say we dont have official religion in HRE, how to set official religion, is it posible that i cant do it couse my ruler is excommunicated and how to revoke that and make religion as official to HRE)

How did you manage your monarch points in order to progress in ideas/technology? More specifically with diplo points, how many on points should I be adding per month to grow in tech/ideas and yet maximizing my diplomacy slots (with royal marriages, alliance, etc.)?

Take the province in Poland that has the CoR in it. If it's possible to release a nation from that province then release as a vassal (after core + add to empire) and then use subject interaction to enforce religion OR release vassal then break vassalisation and then declare on them to enforce religion.

The first centre of reformation in my current game spawned in south west france, in one of France's new vassals. To complicate matters, France is being played by my brother

Meanwhile in my Savoy > Italy > Roman Empire playthrough my ally Great Britain has a centre of reformation in Kent which is conferring my north Italy provinces 😂😂

Got advice on the best way to handle the reformation as the Austrian Emperor if you're planning on becoming protestant yourself?
