Booker T & Stax Academy play "Time is Tight" at Lincoln Center Summer in the City July 12, 2023

Founded in 2000, Stax Music Academy is an academic arts education not-for-profit that channels the success and tradition of Stax Records, the iconic Tennessean recording label that first presented the songs of Otis Redding, Rufus Thomas, and Booker T. and the M.G.'s to the world. The Stax Academy Rhythm Section is the organization's flagship youth ensemble, specializing in the performance of contemporary R&B, funk, jazz, and timeless hits from the Stax catalogue. Following opening sets from Memphis radio DJs Debbie D and The Big G, the Academy players will soundtrack an evening of soulful social dance under the stars at The Dance Floor with a special guest appearance on the keyboard by Stax living legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honoree, Booker T. Jones.
